We’re honored to have played a small role in a truly meaningful project for the City of Portland — helping dry wood from Portland’s #1 Heritage American Elm.

This project represents something much bigger than a single tree. It reflects a growing movement focused on preserving the value, beauty, and legacy of urban trees through thoughtful reclamation and reuse rather than simply chipping or disposal.

The elm, estimated at approximately 44” across, is being carefully milled into quarter sawn lumber that will eventually be used in future City of Portland projects and historical preservation efforts. A cross section of the tree will also be displayed at the Portland Historical Society.

We’re honored to have played a small role in helping preserve a piece of Portland history.

OCFP recently assisted with kiln drying lumber from Portland’s #1 Heritage American Elm — the first Heritage tree the City of Portland has chosen to salvage and preserve for future community and civic use.

This project represents something much bigger than lumber. It reflects a growing effort to recognize the beauty, value, and legacy of urban trees beyond simply removal or disposal.

We’re incredibly grateful to collaborate with passionate people like Erich Perkins of Rescued Oregon Timber, Sam Wolf and the Portland Urban Forestry team, and the Urban Wood Network – Oregon Chapter, all of whom are helping bring greater awareness to urban wood utilization and preservation.

At Oregon-Canadian Forest Products, we believe wood tells a story. Being trusted with a role in preserving a tree that has been part of Portland’s landscape for generations is something we’re deeply proud of.

We hope this is the beginning of many more projects focused on thoughtfully preserving and repurposing the incredible urban trees that shape our communities.
