Have you ever made Rumtopf? It's a German dessert. Traditional for Christmas but started in spring, you layer each fruit with sugar and rum, starting with strawberries and adding fruits as they come into season.
Since we can have most fruits all year long these modern days, I put mine together this morning. Strawberries, blueberry, peaches, sweet and prune plums, rasp and black berries, figs, muscadine grapes, pear, apple layered between sugar and rum. It will be ready for Christmas.
The end result is a fruity fragrant after dinner liqueur, and seriously flavorful fruits! Only a small serving is good enough to bring on the jollies.
