Want a real bond with your new puppy? Play with them. 🎾
The best training doesn’t always look like TRAINING. Here, a simple game of fetch teaches the skills every family wants:
→ Recall: your puppy learns that coming back to you is the best part of the game
→ Drop it / Leave it: letting go of something they love, calmly and by choice
→ Wait: patience and impulse control before the next throw
→ Bond: your puppy learns you’re the most fun thing in the room
The habits you build in those first weeks are the ones you live with for years. A dog that comes when called, gives up the sock without a chase, and checks in with you didn’t get there by luck. Short, happy games like this one, repeated every day, are how it happens.
How to play fetch with your new puppy:
1. Start indoors with few distractions and a short hallway.
2. Toss the toy just a few feet and cheer them back to you.
3. Trade the toy for a treat or a second toy so letting go pays off.
4. Have them wait a moment before each throw.
5. Stop while they still want more.
At Choice Paws Cavapoos, play is part of our puppy curriculum. Our Cavapoo puppies start on recall, drop it, and calm focus right here in our home in Salt Lake City, so families get a head start on the foundations they’ll keep building.
