This tree is a perfect example of why thinning your trees to allow the best wood light and space to grow can maximize your woodlot value.

An oak tried growing next to a clump of hemlock and worked so hard to find some sunlight that it turned into a kinky mess not good for anything but firewood. If given space when little it could have made some salable sawlogs.

Summer firewood has been in full swing but in between firewood we have had the privilege of cutting some beautiful oak for a long time forestry customer. This is a good example of how sustainable managed wood lots improve the quality of the forest. This lot was thinned about 50 years ago to let the oak grow. Now there are 2-3 foot veneer grade oak that are ready for harvest and a second crop of oak coming that will take over once the mature trees have been removed. Give us a call if you need help managing your wood lot to optimize the tree crop for years to come!
