I had the pleasure of attending a retirement celebration for Muskegon Lakeshore Chamber of Commerce President, Cindy Larsen last nighht at the Van Dyk Conventioin Center,Lots of people there and the highlight of the event was a very special video about Cindy and her 25 year career as Chamber President. The video featured clips of many of her Board Chairs as well as a number of her staff who shared their thoughts about Cindy. NEAL FITNESS CENTER within the new Boys & Girls Club Update! The Neal Fitness Center occupies about 40,000 square feet of our new...$11.4 Million Building. It is separate from the Boys & Girls Club and they are not connected. The Neal Fitness Center (Named for geberous donors Chris McGuigan and her husbant, Gary Neal) is an all new fitness facility that includes state of the art equipment, plus fitness classes, a full-size gym, a very large, 25 meter indoor, heated pool, a new Sauna, dressing rooms, a large parking lot and highly trained fitness experts. Well, months ago, I posted here about anyone who provided a shuttle service to and from Muskegon to the Grand Rapids Airport. I did get a number of responses and names, but, alas, I cannot find my list! I'm looking for an individual or small business that can provide this service. Tomorrow is election day. I know that many of you have voted and in my Commission District, much of Norton Shores, as of a few days ago, over 10,000 absentee ballots had already been turned in. But there are still thousands more votes to be cast and I would appreciate the opportunity to quickly make the case for voting for my reelection. As the Chair of the County's Ways & Means Committee (Better described as the Finance Committee), I am pleased to share these facts with you: Your County has maintained an excellent credit rating with the Standard & Poor's Credit Rating Service as "AA Stable". Our Fund Balance Reserve (similar to a savings account) is $9,668,065 (yes, $9.7 Million) and the highest amount ever. The Muskegon County Pension Fund is 87% funded and the State of Michigan considers 80% "The Gold Standard". And finally, as our tax revenue was reduced we made the necessary changes. In 2010 the county employed 1187 people, in 2020 it is 1007. Most reductions were through retirements and attrition, but the difficult decisions were made.
Our Community needs elected officials who reach out and build bridges with everyone. We need to work together to move our County forward. I have a long history of working cooperatively and trying to find solutions that we can all accept. If you want your elected official to have an open mind, to talk to everyone, use common sense and do what's best for everyone, I am your candidate. Lots of people are voting Absentee for the August 4th Primary election. I am running for reelection in District 4...much of the City of Norton Shores...and I would very much appreciate your vote. Merle and I have hosted the Boys & Girls Club Gala at our home for the last 4 years. This year's event planned for May 16th has been postponed because of the Corona Virus. But, we know that many have Cabin Fever, so we will be hosting a VIRTUAL COCKTAIL HOUR on May 16, 2020. The REAL Gala as you know it, is being planned for September. Join us for the Virtual Cocktail Hour from 6-7 PM on Saturday, May 16, 2020. The event will have a free option, and a VIP Option. The VIP Option will allow the household into a special hosted Zoom Cocktail Hour by a board member during the show for extra interaction.
