With all of the recent rainfall, take a few minutes to check around your home for standing water. Rainwater can collect in buckets, flowerpots, birdbaths, gutters, tires, and other containers - creating places for mosquitoes to breed.

Not only can pets get diseases from ticks, but they can also bring them into our homes where they can bite people. Be sure to check yourself & your pet after being outdoors – even in your own yard!

If you find one, remove it carefully with tweezers or a tick key. You can upload a picture to etick.ca to have it identified.

Our furry family members feel the heat too. During this heat wave, take a few simple steps to keep your dogs and cats healthy:
💧 Keep fresh, cool water available at all times.
🌳 Provide plenty of shade or keep pets indoors during the hottest part of the day.
🚶 Walk dogs early in the morning or after sunset to avoid heat stress and hot pavement.
🐾 Test the pavement with your hand—if it's too hot for you, it's too hot for their paws.
🚗 Never leave pets in a parked vehicle, even for a few minutes.
😺 Make sure outdoor cats have access to cool, shaded areas and fresh water.

Watch for signs of heat exhaustion: excessive panting, drooling, weakness, vomiting, or collapse. If you notice these symptoms, move your pet to a cool area, offer water, and contact your veterinarian immediately.
