Congratulations Team!

We are very happy to announce that the Greenfield Public Library has been certified as LEED Silver!
Sustainability goals were met with:
• Durable materials were used to extend the life of the building and minimize maintenance.
• Super insulation (beyond code requirements) helps reduce heat loss in winter and heat gain in summer.
• All-electric systems are supplemented by a rooftop 49kW photovoltaic array
• Solar harvesting uses light sensors to reduce lighting near windows to conserve energy and provide even lighting throughout the interior spaces.

To achieve LEED Silver certification, a building must meet specific criteria across several categories, including:
• Energy Efficiency: Use of energy-efficient systems and renewable energy sources.
• Water Conservation: Implementation of water-saving fixtures and systems.
• Indoor Environmental Quality: Ensuring good air quality, natural light, and thermal comfort.
• Sustainable Site Development: Location and transportation considerations to reduce reliance on cars.

Congratulations to the Towns of Shelburne, Buckland and Ashfield and the Shelburne Senior Center Expansion Committee.

The Expansion Committee has spent several years exploring solutions to their Senior Center overcrowding. After a lot of work by the Expansion Committee and P3, they developed the legal framework to develop a regional district to serve the Seniors of the three towns, the West County Senior Services District.

An Act establishing the "West County Senior Services District" was placed on the Annual Town Meeting Warrant of all three towns. On May 7th, the Town of Buckland voted in favor, 77-5. On May 7th, the Town of Ashfield voted in favor. On June 11, the Town of Shelburne voted in favor, 49-10.

The Act will now be sent to the State Legislature for approval. If approved, it will be the first regional district of its kind in the State of Massachusetts.
