Let me state this right off the bat - you can wear whatever you want whenever you want it. That is not what this post is about. But when it comes to what to wear for family photos?? That you’re paying for?? In my maaaannnyyyy (18+!!) years of doing photos I have learned that these popular spring trends are often not your friend as cute as they might be on the model or in real life.

From how certain prints photograph, to how waistlines create a visual image, to just annoying parts of outfits you have to deal with. These are a few things to keep in mind when planning outfits for photos.

HOWEVER - all hope is not lost! Do you think I’d just leave you without ideas to make it work??? As if! 😘There are ways to incorporate trends and make it work for you and your photos that I share in the second half.

Tiny toes Tuesday. There’s some alliteration to go with your morning coffee.

But let’s talk details for a minute. The flaky little fingers that grasp your finger. The delicate shell of their ear that you whisper words of love into. The fine dusting of hair that you smell after their bath. The little button nose that you love to kiss.

There are all of these beautiful little details of your newborn that are only little for a short period of time. They will grow and they change just like everything else.

But even in the haze of the first few weeks and months those little details? They are the ones you always remember. And it’s why you find me always photographing them during your newborn session. ❤️

"I don’t have a magazine-perfect house… it’s too small… not enough light…" I hear it all the time from potential clients.

But here’s the truth:

This newborn session? Their home was in the middle of a major renovation. Bed in the living room, walls covered in spackle, plastic sheets everywhere… and you’d never know it. Because I don’t need magazine perfection. I have photographed in empty just-moved-in massive houses, I have photographed in the tiniest most cluttered apartments. All I need is a bed or a couch, a window, and a wall.

Sure, yes of course, beautiful spaces are fun to work with—but that’s not what matters. When you look back at your newborn photos, you won’t see your decor. You’ll see your baby. Your love. Your brand new family.

Right up there with the “do you do noses?” I mentioned yesterday is one of my favorite go-to questions during sessions with kids under 4: “do you ever fly them in the air?”

We've all had the stage five clinger kids. The ones who don't want to show their face or be put down. And I will hear parents say "I don't know if you'll be able to get so-and-so on their own!" This trick is especially great for little ones who are shy and wiggly, and also for the babies not quite sitting or walking on their own yet because everyone wants those cute baby-only images!

And the bonus? It’s a triple win:

It usually brings out smiles and giggles (and if it doesn’t, I pivot quickly!)

It can create the sweetest candid moments with mom or dad - lifting baby up and bringing them back down for kisses

Shooting from below gives you those happy solo shots that can be tricky to capture otherwise

It's something super simple, playful, and always worth a try!!

“Do you guys do noses?” It’s one of the questions I use all the time during sessions — and it’s one of my favorite little prompts.

A quick nose-to-nose moment is the sweetest alternative to kisses (especially when someone’s wearing lipstick). It brings everyone close together, gets foreheads touching, and almost always turns into genuine smiles and laughs. I do this with babies, toddlers, and big kids all the time, and it consistently creates some of the most natural, love-filled images. And honestly…some of my favorites.

Hi all! I have been working hard on my website and SEO / Google stuff for a few weeks now and the one thing I am lacking is Google reviews!! I have plenty on my feedback forms and on my website but I can't enter those on Google myself. If you have worked with me and wouldn't mind taking a minute to review me I would be ever so appreciative

Post a review to our profile on Google

Happy St. Patrick's Day! I had to choose some green, and the gorgeous reddish hair was just a bonus. I don't know that Amanda is actually Irish but I'm going with it. May your corned beef and cabbage be delicious and may the leprechauns play no tricks on you. And if you have kids may the leprechaun traps not have been too involved.

One of the best times to photograph your baby is right when they’re just starting to walk. It’s that short, magical stage where those first wobbly steps are happening. A few determined little toddles… and then a gentle plop right down onto their bum. It’s honestly one of the cutest phases.

They’re excited to move and explore, but they can’t go very far or very fast yet. And that little window of time? Perfect for photos. It lets me capture beautiful solo images of them sitting, standing, and taking those adorable first steps. And so often it comes with the biggest gummy smiles—just like Miss Hailey here. ❤️
