Millions of pass over NYC each spring and fall, but our city’s light pollution disrupts their navigational cues, pulling them off course and into our dangerous urban environment where they face deadly collisions.

250,000 birds die from collisions each year in NYC. 😞 The good news? legislation can change that! 🕊️

Intro 0998 [Epstein] would require commercial, office, and educational buildings to turn off nonessential lighting during season! This commonsense conservation practice will:
💡 Reduce our city’s energy consumption.
😴 Ensure better sleep and health for New Yorkers.
🐦 Help millions of birds migrate safely.

Take 30 seconds to write your Council Member and ask them to support . We’ve already written a script!

Black communities have always invested in one another. The question is whether philanthropy is willing to invest with that same level of commitment.

This Black Philanthropy Month, we’re highlighting the work of Black Freedom Fund and their push for something the sector needs much more of: long-term, flexible, trust-based funding for organizations serving Black communities.

Because transformative work cannot be sustained on short-term grants, restricted dollars, and constantly having to prove that the work matters.

The organizations closest to their communities already have the ideas, relationships, and leadership. They need the resources to build, grow, and lead for the long term.

We’re grateful for Black Freedom Fund and the work they’re doing to move philanthropy in that direction.

The Clinton Foundation has launched its first new initiative in more than a decade. The Clinton Policy Institute will work with state and local governments to develop nonpartisan policy solutions on health outcomes, economic security and democracy.

CPI is already convening political leaders from both parties, researchers and affected communities, building on a partnership with New York state that removed cellphones from schools last year.

One thing we notice working with nonprofit leaders is how rarely they fully disconnect.

A day off becomes a chance to catch up on email. A vacation becomes time to think through staffing challenges, grant deadlines, budget gaps, and board questions.

The reality is that mission-driven work follows many leaders everywhere they go.

Still, stepping away has value.

A different city. A different routine. A few days without rushing from meeting to meeting. Sometimes that’s enough to return with a clearer perspective on problems that felt impossible a week earlier.

The work will be waiting when you get back.
