Current options for removal of your horse after it passes provided by Tail End Transport. If you are choosing us, and we hope you are, this is the only outfit that transports horses to us. Bringing the horse yourself is still an option as well as on-site euthanasia. Feel free to call or message us with any questions.

Updated information for when you are considering ‘End of Life’ locations for your animal; here are 3 options we transport to currently.

1–OMEGA FARMS in Noti. A individual burial on their idyllic farm in the foothills. This is the middle-priced transport and burial option. We, both Matthew and I, have the honor of being the only transportation business permitted to bring horses there for burial.

2-SHORT MOUNTAIN —in Goshen. The mass burial there is at a commercial facility that disposes of community items. They place the horse in a hole and it is buried and covered over. This is the least expensive transport and burial option.

3– CREMATION— at West Coast (formerly Dignified) in Portland or Petland in Washington. Both facilities have limited large animal cremation appointments, so the cremation choice must be pre-planned. We need 24 hours notice for cremation transports. Our price is for transport only. The horse owner makes the reservation with the cremation company. This is the more expensive option.

Prices for transport and burial depend on your location, so please feel free to call, text, message, or email us and we will give you a quote depending on your situation, address and final resting place location.

We are here to help when you need us.

"Better a week early than a day late."

"Better a week early than a day late."

A tough topic about an even tougher decision.

It would be easier if they just made the decision for us. Laid down to rest one warm fall afternoon surrounded by their herd mates, never to wake again.

Easier also is in the face of dire emergency, where the only choice is clear, the path to quick mercy.

Unfortunately for us as horse owners, there are blessed few who have that decision made for us. Most of the time, it’s up to us to make that last call.

The majority of us are left with the horses who served us well right up until the end, maybe even enjoying years of retirement. When you see them out in the pasture and wonder, “is this the end, or just a bad day? A bad few days?” “Oh – they look perky today, maybe things are looking up. What I thought I had to think, I don’t have to – today. It’s a good day.”

But the writing is on the wall. Their eyes are less bright, their weight hard to keep. Their gait shuffled, surviving, but no longer thriving.

All symptoms of the fact you have the hardest decision of your life to make, and soon. I wish it on no one and grieve the day I have to make the decision I advocate here for; the decision to let them go on a good day.

We are having a blessedly long and beautiful fall, but time is waning if you are only beginning to contemplate whether your trusted partner can face another barren, brutal, frostbitten winter.

You are the only advocate your horse has. His health is and has always been in your hands. In loving him as hard as you have for all these years, I hope you can love him hard enough to let them go on a good day, while there is still time.

BIG NEWS, BIG CHANGES!! While it might not be the news you all were waiting for, it is what David has been waiting for ;) We will no longer be transporting animals for burial. Traci has been transporting horses from north of Albany for us for about 18 months and now Wendy is buying the truck and will be taking over the local jobs - woohoo! Her business is Tail End Transport, this is her FB page and she will soon have a website up as well. We will continue to allow people to bring horses here themselves either after they have passed or to meet a vet here for euthanasia. Our burial fee is currently $250, both Wendy and Traci include our burial fee in their quote for transportation and they pay us when they bring the horse here so you don't have to make separate payments. There is kind of a gray area, but basically Wendy will cover south of Albany, including Sweet Home, Lebanon, Corvallis and Toledo while Traci will cover areas north including Monmouth and Salem. Call or message if you have questions. Traci - 503-932-0738; Wendy - 541-914-0500; Omega Farms - 541-935-1588

Does this look like progress?! Well, it may not look like much, but it's enough to get to the burial area so WE ARE BACK up and running. Obviously there is still lots to do so if there is any way you can bring a horse here rather than David providing transport, that would still be appreciated and you'll save money, too. Burial only price is just $200, while transport and burial starts at $400.

I see you out there, and I love you for every sacrifice you have made.
I've mentioned it before--I adore shooting elderly horses. Not so much for the actual horse--i love the grumpy dudes and dudettes who are stingey with their ears, of course--but my absolute adoration comes from the people behind every single grey hair. Every single dropped back. Every single ridge in a carefully managed foot.
I see you, old horse owners. I see the promise you made your old friend--that he'd never leave your side again, that he'd never have to worry about a next owner. That he'd never load on a trailer bound for the unknown.
I see the expense it takes in dollars and worry. The careful diet you obsess over, the careful turnout buddies and just the right pasture with the perfectly not-too-big rolling pit.
I see you beaming at your old horse--proud and happy they are still proud and happy, despite not having sat on their backs for sometimes decades.
I see you-sometimes barely scraping by with two horses, sometimes barely scraping by with one. I see what you've done--the bills you've paid month after month because your old friend is still happy to live.
I see the joy your old friend brings you when he tilts his head just this way, and the way he stands just inches from your hair-both of you breathing one another in.
I see your impending heartbreak for the day you may have to make that final decision. I see your internal struggle--is he happy? Is he ok? Am I keeping him around for him or me?
I see your tears thinking about that day, and the tears of joy reliving his youth.
To everyone with an old horse, I see you, and I respect and love you. 💕
