Amber Mayes Consulting

Amber Mayes Consulting Helping brilliant leaders quiet self-doubt and overwhelm so you can thrive, even in environments not built for you. You’re respected, but not always fully seen.

Are you a leader who has worked incredibly hard to get to where they are…but even with all your success, something still feels just out of reach? I help accomplished leaders reconnect with their authentic power so they can lead boldly, navigate complexity with grace, and create sustainable success that feels as good on the inside as it looks on the outside. Successful, but working so hard you don’

t have time to enjoy it. You sense there’s another level of freedom, confidence, and impact waiting for you, but you can’t quite access it. Perhaps, you’re stuck in systems that don’t value who you are and are tired of a wearing mask to be accepted. You’re not alone. I see this all the time with the extraordinary leaders I coach - brilliant, mission-driven people who’ve spent years excelling in systems that reward performance but not authenticity. Maybe you’ve…
-Outgrown the way you’ve been leading, but aren’t sure what’s next.
-Felt isolated at the top, craving a trusted thought partner.
-Silenced your intuition to fit in and it’s cost you energy and joy.
-Reached a point where outer success no longer feels like inner fulfillment. The truth is…
Leadership transformation isn’t about learning more strategies. It’s about coming home to your authentic power - the kind that leads with wisdom, presence, and confidence from the inside out. I support high-achieving leaders to:

-Clarify what they want and GET it.
-Release patterns of overwork and self-doubt that limit their impact.
-Cultivate the inner confidence to lead boldly - even in uncertain systems.
-Break through income and career ceilings that once felt out of reach.
-Step into their next level of leadership - whether that’s a promotion, expanded influence, or greater fulfillment.
-Create sustainable success with joy, clarity, and integrity. If you’ve reached a high level of success but know there’s a deeper level of leadership and fulfillment calling you I can help you get there. Let’s connect with a complimentary call: https://www.ambermayes.com/book-a-discovery-call

I almost fell into a marketing trap recently after spending time on social media.

You know the messages:

"Don't miss out."
"Act now."
"Only a few spots left."

As I thought about inviting people into my upcoming program, I noticed those messages creating something in my body: Pressure. Tightness. Urgency.

And it hit me: many of the women I work with already live in urgency.

Urgency to prove themselves. To get it right. To earn belonging, recognition, and success.

The transformations I've witnessed don't come from urgency.
They come from discernment.

From slowing down long enough to ask: Is this actually what I want?

Not, "What am I afraid of missing?"
But, "Is this a full-bodied yes?"

That's why I don't believe in convincing people to join my programs. My goal isn't enrollment. It's alignment.

Sometimes the answer is yes. Sometimes it's not yet. Sometimes it's no.

All three are good answers.

In a culture that rewards reactivity, choosing intentionally can feel almost rebellious.

And yet it may be one of the most important leadership skills we can develop.

What's one decision you've made recently from discernment rather than urgency? I'd love to hear.

P.S. The picture is from my last trip to my mom’s homeland. I just made it my Home Screen on my phone to remind me to slow down. Nature is in no rush.

So many accomplished women leaders I talk to are carrying the same quiet thought:

“I’m the most prepared person in the room… and still the one wondering if I belong there.”

Not because they aren’t capable.

But because years of navigating biased systems, impossible expectations, over-performance, and constant pressure to prove themselves has taken a toll.

Over time, that pressure gets internalized.

You begin:
• second-guessing yourself
• over-preparing
• replaying conversations at night
• shrinking in rooms you’ve already earned your place in

Most people call this a confidence problem.

But often it’s something deeper:
a nervous system and belief system shaped by chronic pressure to constantly prove your worth.

That’s exactly why I created The Confident Leader Blueprint.

A 12-week online experience designed to help women leaders quiet the inner critic, release perfectionism and over-functioning, and lead with grounded confidence, clarity, and self-trust.

Your first step is free.

✨ Schedule a Leadership Clarity Assessment to uncover the hidden patterns impacting your confidence, visibility, and leadership presence.

This is not a sales call. There will be no pressure to buy anything. If you are ready for a coaching program, I will share information. If not, I will suggest resources that will help you take the next step.

She came to me exhausted.

Not because she wasn’t capable. Not because she lacked experience or talent. Quite the opposite.

She had spent years proving herself in a workplace that consistently undermined her. Her ideas were questioned. Her leadership was minimized. The respect she had earned somehow always felt just out of reach. Over time, the constant second-guessing around her became second-guessing within her.

By the time we started working together, she knew she needed to leave. But the thought of stepping into something bigger felt almost impossible. The old wounds had been activated. Deep ones. The kind that whisper: maybe you’re not enough after all.

What struck me immediately was that her confidence hadn’t disappeared. It had been buried under the weight of chronic invalidation.

In our work together, we didn’t spend time pretending she was powerful. She already was. We worked on helping her reconnect to the parts of herself that had become harder to access while surviving in an environment that kept diminishing her.

Over four sessions, something began to shift.

Her nervous system settled. Her clarity returned. The fog lifted enough for her to see herself accurately again.

And then she did something bold.

She pitched herself for an executive role at another company.

Not from desperation.
Not from overcompensating.
But from grounded confidence.

And she got it.

Watching her step into this new chapter has been such a reminder that sometimes people do not need more credentials, more hustle, or another leadership book.

Sometimes they need space to heal from environments that taught them to distrust their own brilliance.

The right support can help people remember who they were before the world convinced them to shrink.

I’m not talking about being wishy-washy or abandoning your values.

I’m inviting you to consider something different:

What if opposing needs like
structure and flexibility,
differentiation and integration,
speed and slowness
aren’t actually in conflict?

What if they each have a time, a place, and a purpose?

Instead of reaching for either/or to create certainty and control, what happens when you start from a both/and mindset?

What opens up?

Where do you get more creative, more grounded, more effective?

Try it on the next time you’re faced with ideas or desires that feel at odds and notice what shifts.

I’d love to hear what you discover 👇

Leadership Skill of the Week: Return Authority
One of the most common things I work on with my clients is returning authority to their teams.
So many leaders were taught that being “good” means doing everything.
Stepping in. Fixing it. Carrying the load.
But no one told them the flip side:
When you do everything…
you quietly train your team not to.
It’s the unhelpful kind of help.
And it makes sense.
Early in your career, doing more = more recognition, more reward, more money.
That strategy worked.
But leadership is a different game.
Now your impact isn’t measured by what you do…
it’s measured by what you enable.
I’ve had to learn this myself.
That’s why I literally made a sign to interrupt my own patterns.
Not just: “Whose responsibility is this?”
But the deeper question: “Whose responsibility should this be?”
And if my first answer is “me”…
I pause, take a breath… and ask again. 🛑🙂

It was truly special being interviewed by Suzanne B. Roberts on the Purpose for Life podcast.

Suzanne is brilliant.

They are one of the only people I know who can hold deep soul work without spiritually bypassing or, in their words, “sanitizing oppression.”

Being in Suzanne’s presence calls you forward.
Into your full radiance.
Nothing less will suffice.
This is priceless in not just in leadership work, but in every day life.

This conversation stayed with me.

Leadership Skill of the Week: Team Planning in Complex Situations.

If a salary conversation makes you nervous, it doesn’t mean you aren’t ready or deserving.

It’s usually because your nervous system still thinks your worth is on the line.

A few things that can help you prepare for salary conversations in a way that shows (yourself and others) that your value is not up for debate.

• Document your impact.
Not just what you did… how it moved the business or furthered the mission.
• Practice saying your number out loud.
Confidence grows in repetition, not just in your head.
• Expect discomfort and plan for it.
You don’t need to feel calm to advocate for yourself. Doing a few of the practices in my Confident Leader Toolkit can help (link in bio).

This isn’t about becoming something you’re not. It’s about learning to hold your ground
even when it feels uncomfortable.

That’s leadership.

Leadership skill of the week…
I learned a long time ago to take a sip of coffee before responding ☕️
It sounds simple, but it creates just enough space to actually think.
To notice what’s coming up.
To choose your response instead of defaulting to it.
It’s a small habit…
but it’s one of the ways I’ve learned to lead instead of react.
