The origin of Barry Bears LLC is a story I am pleased to share. My son, Barry Lee Hewitt, was a financial advisor who frequently advised me to find a hobby to occupy my retirement years and generate supplemental income. Unbeknownst to me, this journey would commence following his unexpected passing due to a heart attack at the age of 41. Despite being active and healthy, his sudden death was a shock. He lived a life marked by purpose and energy. Previously, I had considered learning to make memory bears from a quilt belonging to my great-grandmother, Rose, but my inability to sew and demanding work schedule prevented me from pursuing this interest. After my son's passing, I struggled with grief and depression, often praying for guidance. During one particularly difficult moment, I felt a strong sense of purpose: to create memory bears for others experiencing similar hardship. Following several weeks of prayer and contemplation with my husband, we established a business plan, obtained necessary licenses and permits, and acquired the skills and materials needed to create memory bears. We developed our own pattern, and on December 15, 2017, we crafted our first bear. Although it required refinement, by December 25, 2017, we had successfully created 24 bears for our family using Barry's clothing. Eight years later, I have made nearly 1,600 bears for others, each one preceded by a prayer that it brings comfort, memories, and a smile to its recipient. Through this ministry, I share the story of my son and the legacy he left behind, as well as the message of Jesus. Barry Bears LLC operates under the mission statement 'Making memories, one bear at a time.' If you are interested in commissioning a memory bear, please contact me at 918-273-8707.
