Learning through play is serious work. 💜

Today brought an elephant parade (Baby Elephant Walk?) with animal shakers, ocean drums that just happened to match a favorite dress, and plenty of opportunities for creativity. 🐘🐙 It was also a great day for flashlights during our lullaby! 🔦✨

The best part? Watching children co-regulate with each another and their grown-ups, creating meaningful experiences. Play isn’t a break from learning... play is learning. 🎶

Thanks to our newest Tempo! team member Mary, on her first day helping out with Rhythm Kids and Music Together! We miss Anto, but you can find her on the field as drum major of the Nutley Marching Band this fall!

A huge thank you to Elisa, Greg, Alyssa, and everyone who helped behind the scenes while Angela was in Canada co-presenting at the ISME Special Music Education and Music Therapy Commission.

Angela had the opportunity to co-present two sessions: Music Educators’ Use and Knowledge of Augmentative and Alternative Communication and *Recommendations for Post-Ableist Practice in Early Childhood Music Therapy and Education (*with Tempo!’s Internship Director, Dr. Carol Ann Blank). We’re grateful to be part of a team that supports one another’s professional growth while continuing to provide high-quality services every day. This work may not always be visible, but it is an important part of our mission. 💜

✨ It was a great day for flashlights! In today’s Music Together® classes (ages birth-5), we used flashlights to make “stars” on the ceiling during Great Big Stars. These shared lullaby experiences help support connection, comfort, and co-regulation between children and their grownups.

In Rhythm Kids® (ages 4-8) we slowed down with our quiet moment by making “musical burritos”. Thanks to Anto for playing along! 😄 We like to have fun too!

What a full week at Tempo! 🎶✨

From Music Together classes to music therapy groups and adapted and therapeutic lessons, it’s been incredible to see music making a difference every single day. 💜

We also had the privilege of attending the NJSO’s Relaxed Performance featuring Joshua Bell 🎻

And to top it all off, we (re)connected with so many amazing professionals at the Todd Ouida Children’s Foundation Conference.

Highlight moment: Angela and Greg were so happy to catch up with the wonderful Dr. Gerry Costa! 💫

Grateful for a week full of connection, collaboration, and the power of music. 🎵
