๐ŸŒฒ A little history, a little mystery, and a whole lot of natural beauty!

Did you know one of Oregon's most fascinating natural wonders is right here in the Illinois Valley?

Oregon Caves National Monument & Preserve is more than an incredible underground adventure. It's part of the history, beauty, and character that make our corner of Southern Oregon such a special place to explore.

And the adventure doesn't end when you leave the caves! Take your time coming back through the valley. Discover our local shops, grab a bite to eat, and enjoy a glass of Illinois Valley w**e. ๐Ÿท

There's so much to experience here, both above and below ground!

W**e is the invitation. The Illinois Valley is the experience.

๐Ÿ•ฏ๏ธ In the Siskiyou Mountains of southern Oregon, a hunter named Elijah Davidson followed his dog into a hillside in 1874 and found something nobody expected: a cave carved into solid marble.

That discovery became Oregon Caves National Monument, proclaimed in 1909. Inside, the passages twist through glistening marble walls, flowstone and stalactites, and the place earned a nickname that stuck: the Marble Halls of Oregon. ๐Ÿฆ‡

Marble caves are rare. Most caves form in limestone, which makes this one of the few places in the country where you can walk through a cave shaped inside real marble. The rock is cool, damp and quiet, and the only sound is dripping water. ๐Ÿ’ง

The monument sits above a forest of old growth conifers near Cave Junction, so the trip there is part of the adventure. Would you rather explore a cave by lantern light or climb a mountain at sunrise?

๐Ÿ‚ Calling Local Makers, Including Our YOUNGEST Ones! ๐Ÿท

Weโ€™re building the maker lineup for the Illinois Valley W**e Trailโ€™s Savor the Season W**e Tour, November 7 & 14, and this year I want to make room for something I especially love seeing when I visit other w**e regions: youth entrepreneurs.

Weโ€™re looking for local artisan vendors AND youth makers to join us at our four w**ery locations.

๐Ÿงถ Handmade fiber arts
๐Ÿ’Ž Jewelry & accessories
๐Ÿ•ฏ๏ธ Candles & handcrafted goods
๐ŸŽจ Art, pottery & creative work
๐Ÿฅ– Baked goods & specialty foods
๐ŸŒฟ Farm-made and locally grown products
๐ŸŽ Unique handmade gifts
โ€ฆand other locally made creations!

And for our youth vendors, it doesn't have to be elaborate. Paintings, bracelets, bookmarks, finger-knitted scarves, decorated rocks, little bundles of herbs, ornaments, baked treats, handmade gifts... if they make it and they're proud of it, I want to hear about it.

We're hoping to feature one youth maker at each w**ery location, giving up to four young entrepreneurs a chance to sell what they create.

โœจ Youth vendor spaces are FREE.

And if your young maker has an idea but doesn't have a business name, sign, or quite know how to turn it into a little business yet, I'm happy to help them with that part. That's half the fun!

We're also looking for adult artisan vendors, with a limited number of spaces available. Adult vendor spaces are $25 per w**ery location.

๐Ÿ‚ Saturday, November 7
Augustino Estate & Vineyard + Bridgeview Vineyards

๐Ÿ‚ Saturday, November 14
Foris Vineyards + Deer Creek Vineyards

Savor guests will be traveling between the featured w**eries to taste, eat, shop and experience the Illinois Valley, so we're looking for makers whose products add to that wonderful fall w**e-country atmosphere.

Interested? Learn more and fill out the vendor form here:
https://illinoisvalleyw**etrail.com/savor-the-season-two-saturdays-of-w**e-food-fall-in-the-illinois-valley/

And please tag a local maker or a creative young entrepreneur who should see this! ๐Ÿ

๐Ÿ›๏ธ A SMALL GIFT SHOP WITH A BIG PURPOSE

Come inside the Hope Collective Gift Shop with Laura Mancuso, Executive Director of Illinois Valley Living Solutions!

Located in Cave Junction, Hope Collective features art from local artists on consignment along with specialty items donated by members of the community. And when you shop here, your dollars stay connected to the community: all proceeds benefit the nonprofit Illinois Valley Living Solutions.

๐Ÿ“ 315 Caves Hwy., Suite A, Cave Junction
๐Ÿ• Fridays, 12:30โ€“5:30 p.m.
๐Ÿ• Saturdays, 12โ€“4 p.m.

Hours may expand as more volunteers become available, so follow Illinois Valley Living Solutions on Facebook for current updates and a peek at whatโ€™s arriving in the shop.

This is exactly the kind of place we want visitors to discover as we continue expanding the Illinois Valley W**e Trail visitor directory beyond the w**eries. Shop local, discover something unique, and support work happening right here in the Illinois Valley. ๐ŸŒฒโค๏ธ

๐Ÿ•ฏ๏ธ Deep in the Siskiyou Mountains of southwest Oregon, a cave of solid marble is hiding under the forest. Oregon Caves National Monument is known as the Marble Halls of Oregon, with rooms of flowstone, stalactites and delicate draperies that glow amber under the lights.

๐Ÿฆ‡ The story goes that a hunter named Elijah Davidson discovered the cave in 1874 while chasing a bear with his dog. In 1909, President William Howard Taft set the area aside as a national monument so its formations would be protected.

๐Ÿฅพ Visitors still walk narrow stone passages by guided tour, and the surrounding forest of old conifers makes the trip feel like stepping through a doorway into another world. Few places in the West combine mountain woods and marble halls in the same day.

Most people drive right past southern Oregon on the way somewhere else, and that is how this place stays so quiet. Have you ever explored a cave, and was it cool and damp or surprisingly beautiful? ๐ŸŒฒ
