When people think about aviation safety, they often think about aircraft, technology, or automation.
But in my experience, safety is built like a pyramid.
At the top is safe operations—what the public ultimately sees and relies on.
In the middle is team communication and coordination—the day-to-day exchange between technicians, engineers, and ground crews that keeps everything aligned and running safely.
At the foundation is training and organizational culture. This is where safety really starts, and it’s becoming even more important as the industry faces a shortage of skilled aviation maintenance professionals.
Technology is a powerful tool, but it can't replace human judgment, experience, and teamwork.
In my view, aviation safety starts with people—not planes.
