Tonight at 7:35pm, the Oak Creek Dispatch Center received the report of a swimmer in distress at Bender Park. Prior to the arrival of the Fire Department, a person on a jet ski was able to throw a personal floatation device (PFD) to that swimmer. An Oak Creek Fire Department rescue swimmer entered the water and was able to reach the swimmer in distress and bring them to shore. The conscious and alert person was moved to a South Milwaukee Fire Department paramedic unit and then transported to the hospital for further evaluation.

As a matter of public safety, all individuals entering the water should be aware of the water conditions and mindful of their own swimming ability. Lake Michigan waters are far different from inland lakes and swimming pools.

This morning, at 9:35, the Oak Creek Dispatch Center received the report of an explosion at Redwall Screen Printing (7655 S 6th). First arriving crews encountered a heavy volume of smoke in the building but no active fire. The large commercial building was ventilated to remove a buildup of smoke and all employees evacuated and were accounted for. It was reported that employees had discharged multiple dry chemical fire extinguishers prior to the arrival of the fire department.

Further investigation of the incident revealed that a can of spray adhesive fell into a textile dryer. Heat from the dryer caused the can to explode with fire extending out of the dryer and also into an exhaust stack. Immediate damage estimates are not known at this time.

Five employees were medically evaluated on scene but refused transport to the hospital. There were no injuries to fire personnel. The Oak Creek Fire Department received assistance from the Milwaukee, Franklin, Greenfield, South Milwaukee, West Allis and St Francis Fire Departments.

We had an incredible time providing dinner and presenting a $5,000 check donation to support the amazing campers and staff at burn camp! Seeing firsthand the joy and resilience of these young survivors is a powerful reminder of why community matters so much. Professional Fire Fighters of Wisconsin Charitable Foundation, Inc.

Next week is our annual Charity Golf Outing on August 20th! Because of the amazing support we receive, we look forward to being able to continue to give back to the community we serve daily.

WATER RESCUE INCIDENT
Tonight, at approximately 6:45pm, the Oak Creek Dispatch Center received the report of a person needing to be rescued from the water at Bender Park. The first-arriving company confirmed that the victim was conscious, but had suffered a traumatic injury and was unable to get out of the water. Bystanders were attempting to assist the victim.

Oak Creek rescue swimmers entered the water from the breakwater rocks and stabilized the victim. Additional rescue swimmers entered the water and swam the victim to the South Milwaukee rescue boat. The victim was then brought to the boat launch where they were treated and transported by a paramedic unit to a trauma center for additional medical care.

One additional individual was evaluated on scene, but refused transport to the hospital.
