🔥 May Is National Wildfire Awareness Month 🔥
Prevention. Preparedness. Protecting lives, homes, and communities together.
Wildfire season is here and what we do now can make all the difference later. Whether you live in the woods, the city, or somewhere in between, wildfire readiness is a shared responsibility.
✅ PREVENTION
Many wildfires are human‑caused. You can help by:
• Following burn bans and burn permit rules
• Properly extinguishing campfires
• Securing towing chains and avoiding sparks
• Creating defensible space around your home
✅ PREPAREDNESS
Wildfires move fast. Preparation gives you time—and time saves lives.
• Know multiple evacuation routes
• Sign up for emergency alerts
• Talk with your family about evacuation plans
• Pack a GO BAG before you need it
✅ PROTECTING WHAT MATTERS—TOGETHER
Firefighters, neighbors, families, and communities all play a role. When we prepare together, we reduce risk for everyone.
🔥 Prepared communities are safer communities.
Take a little time this month to reduce risk, get ready, and help protect what matters most.
📢 Share this post to help your neighbors get ready, too.

🚒 FF2 Extrication Training 🚒

Firefighting Academy trainees took part in FF2 Practical Skills: Vehicle Extrication, gaining hands-on experience with real-world rescue scenarios. This training focused on scene safety, patient access, stabilization, and tool operations—critical skills for complex emergency responses.

Great work by the students and instructors who continue to set the standard for professionalism and preparedness.

📣A special thank you to Seaplane Base Navy Fire E70 for your help.

🔥 PROUD. GRATEFUL. INSPIRED. 🔥

North Whidbey Fire & Rescue is incredibly proud to have three of our firefighters representing our department at FDIC International in Indianapolis, one of the most respected fire service training conferences in the world.

🚒 Volunteer Firefighter Baleigh Allen
🚒 Volunteer Firefighter Clinton Brown
🚒 Part‑Time Firefighter Kadin Gazy‑Delap

FDIC International brings together firefighters from across the country to train, learn, and challenge themselves so they can return home better prepared to serve their communities. Attending this conference is a commitment to growth, leadership, and the fire service profession.

We are especially proud to recognize that Volunteer Firefighters Baleigh Allen and Clinton Brown were able to attend through funding provided by the SAFER Grant.

💼 What is the SAFER Grant?
In simple terms, the SAFER (Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response) Grant is a federal program that helps fire departments recruit, train, and retain firefighters ensuring communities have enough well‑trained personnel to respond when emergencies happen. This funding helps remove financial barriers and invests directly in public safety by supporting the people who serve.

Together, these firefighters represent the very best of North Whidbey Fire & Rescue dedication, professionalism, and pride in serving others. Whether volunteer or part‑time, they carry our department’s values with them, and we couldn’t be more proud of how they are representing our community on a national stage.
Train hard. Learn everything you can. Bring it home.
We’ll be ready to put it to work together. 💪🔥

🔥 A Novella of Gratitude for Our North Whidbey Fire & Rescue Volunteer Firefighters 🔥

In every community, there are quiet heroes’ people who rise before the sun, long before sirens cut through the night. They pull on their gear, step into the unknown, and answer calls that demand courage, compassion, and grit.

Here in North Whidbey, those heroes are our North Whidbey Fire & Rescue Volunteer Firefighters.

They come from every corner of our community parents, students, teachers, mechanics, retirees, tradespeople but when the tones drop, they all move with one purpose: to help someone who needs them. They don’t do it for praise. They don’t do it for recognition. They do it because service is part of who they are.

It takes a rare kind of person to leave dinner on the table, to step away from family time, or to rise at 2 a.m. when the world is quiet all to bring safety, calm, and hope to a neighbor in distress.

Our volunteers give more than their time.
They give their presence.
Their strength.
Their steady hands in chaos.
Their hearts.

To every volunteer who returns home smelling of smoke…
To every firefighter who sacrifices weekends, sleep, and holidays…
To every crew member who trains relentlessly and stands ready for anything…

We see you. We honor you. And we thank you.
Because of you, North Whidbey is stronger.
Because of you, our community is safer.
Because of you, hope shows up when it matters most.

💛 Thank you, North Whidbey Fire & Rescue Volunteer Firefighters. Your dedication lifts this community up in ways most will never see but will always feel.
