Please join us in congratulating one of our own. Last night Firefighter Jeremy Pilkinton graduated from Collin College’s Paramedic program. This is no small accomplishment! He has invested thousands of hours into course work, skills, and clinical rotations. He’ll now spend time studying for the National Registry exam, which will certify him as a paramedic and begin his process toward state certification. Congratulations FF Pilkinton! 🎉

This week crews from all three shifts received EMS training on OB Emergencies and Neonatal Resuscitation. Crews reviewed and refreshed on clinical knowledge as well as practiced skills.

Did you know… Any birth outside of a healthcare setting is considered an emergency birth and Texas Paramedics are trained to deliver in the field?

Did you also know… The Stork Award is given to first responders and emergency dispatchers who help in the successful delivery of a newborn? Many of our crew members have received this award in their career.

Our crews are training not only to deliver babies in the field, but also provide advanced care and resuscitation during complicated emergency births as well.

Thank you to our friends at Texas Health Frisco for coming out and teaching our crews this week!

In honor of National EMS Week (May 17th-23rd), we pause to show appreciation to our EMTs and Paramedics. Our crews work tirelessly each day, serving the community in many capacities. The most recent being our EMS transport capabilities.

Pre-hospital medicine has come along way since it's conception in 1967 with the Freedom House Ambulance Service. Today our EMTs and Paramedics administer more life saving medications, perform highly skilled procedures, and continue to learn more today. Each day we grow closer to providing more advanced and cutting edge care than before.

Our EMTs and Paramedics are more than first responders. They are trusted professionals, problem-solvers, and have a steady presence during some of life’s most critical moments. They are members of this community—neighbors, friends, and family—who answer the call without hesitation. Whether responding to emergencies, supporting one another, or working alongside our healthcare partners, they remain committed to delivering the highest level of care when it matters most.

This campaign is an opportunity to recognize the impact our EMS personnel make each day—often behind the scenes but always felt throughout our community. This year’s EMS Week theme, “Improving Outcomes Together,” reflects the collaboration, commitment, and compassion our paramedics bring to every call. Care goes beyond the walls of the ambulance, the hospital, or even boundaries of our communities.

Join us this week as we highlight the individuals featured in this year’s EMS Week campaign and celebrate the vital role they play in protecting the health and safety of our community.

Congratulations to Fire Chief Richard Whitten on being sworn in as the new Fire Chief of the Oak Point Fire Department. We are excited to serve alongside him as we continue to grow our department.

Asking yourself if you’ve seen him before? Well you’d be correct. Chief Whitten has served our department in the interim position for the last several months. His time as interim Chief does not come without a highlight reel. We have implemented some major changes and made great progress in growing, since he came onboard. Here are just a few highlights

- Building and implementing the hiring committee, which was able to be showcased during this most recent hiring process.
- Introducing and building a promotional process for Battalion Chief and Captain.
- Introduction of department committees for EMS training and Field Training. Health and Wellness. Policy. As previously mentioned our hiring committee.

We are thrilled to have Chief Whitten onboard. With his guidance and professionalism we will continue to move in the right direction, embrace growth, and build our people and relationships in order to better serve our community and its visitors.

Stay tuned for more amazing updates from the Fire Department.

On International Firefighters’ Day, we stop to honor and recognize the men and women of the Oak Point Fire Department. They stand ready at a moments notice to serve our community with courage, professionalism, and unwavering dedication.

This past year has been one of tremendous growth. From hiring over ten new employees to add to our ranks. New apparatus. New Capabilities. All while maintaining the same professionalism and pride you all have come to know.

Today, we thank our firefighters, paramedics, and EMTs for their sacrifice, service, and the vital role they play in keeping our community safe every day. 🚒🔥❤

Please join us in congratulating Battalion Chiefs Russell and Olson on their graduation from the Texas Fire Chiefs Association Battalion Chief Academy.

The 4.5 day academy helps develop aspiring and new Battalion Chiefs with strategic leadership skills with a focus on guiding principles in place of tactical skills.

Their dedication to professional development and growth are pivotal to the culture we are building within the department. We’re grateful to Chief Whitten and city leadership for enabling this possibility.
