Last week at DTECH International 2026 in San Diego, one thing was clear: grid modernization isn’t just about new technology anymore — it’s about ex*****on in the field.
The conversations around AI, communications networks, AMI, and grid intelligence were impressive. But what stood out to us at Sierra Forestry Consulting was this: none of it works without a resilient, reliable right-of-way.
As utilities build smarter grids, they also need smarter vegetation management strategies to protect those investments. Advanced analytics and system visibility are only as strong as the infrastructure they’re designed to protect. Proactive utility forestry isn’t a side function — it’s foundational to grid reliability, wildfire mitigation, and long-term system resilience.
The utilities that will lead the next decade won’t just implement new tech. They’ll integrate data-driven vegetation management, risk modeling, and strong field ex*****on into their modernization strategies from day one.
Beyond the sessions and technology, one of the biggest highlights for our team was the people. We met so many thoughtful, forward-thinking leaders across the utility space and had meaningful conversations about shared challenges and opportunities. We’re grateful for the new connections and are looking forward to continuing those conversations — and exploring how we can work together to build safer, more resilient systems.
