NOV 2 CLOSING SHOW ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: Krystal Harfert
It might be hard to spot upon first encounter–what with all the kinetic, bright fun they create for audiences–but Krystal Harfert is an artist who communicates from a place of deep, patient listening.
Krystal’s work in textiles is often collaborative–costuming dance companies and experimental film casts, while also creating custom pieces for patrons. The pieces they make for wear are often a kind of dance in and of themselves, holding a tension between individual flair, Harfert’s distinctive voice, and the beauty of their chosen materials in motion.
Their resourcefulness in material use–focusing on limiting what enters the waste stream and imagining beautiful uses for what would otherwise be discarded–highlights another kind of listening in their work: when engaging with Krystal’s art, the beholder gets to practice listening for what is possible when we take the time to notice.
It’s been a joy to have Krystal’s creativity housed under Port Lab’s roof throughout the 2024 Arts Residency. We can’t wait to show you more of her work this Saturday! Register to join us here: https://www.facebook.com/events/1646992899204124/
