According to Whirlpool's blog: Not all replacement water filters are equal, and there are plenty of knockoffs out there. Their filters (and their everydrop brand) reduce up to 73 contaminants depending on your fridge, including up to 99.9% of lead. They also suggest looking for filters certified by NSF International, an independent group, and they say theirs are certified in all three categories: taste and odor, health concerns, and emerging contaminants.

My two cents: that filter is easy to forget about. Every 6 months is the common suggestion, but how often you need to swap it really depends on your water quality to begin with. Hard water or a lot of sediment can clog a filter sooner, and cleaner water may let it go longer. If your water starts tasting off, has cloudy discoloration, or the flow slows down, that's a good sign it's time. When you buy a replacement, check the box for the NSF certification and make sure the part number matches for your fridge.

These colder mornings have me thinking... dryer vent cleanings would not be fun in the snow, so let's do $50 flat, before the snow hits. Same price in every town. I'll run route days to keep gas costs down, and even take the pet hair with me free of charge. As people sign up I'll update the comments. Please let me know a time preference as well.

On the bench today, needs a cleaning, new gasket, and repacked with fresh grease. Don't toss them away if they are dripping, its a normal wear and tear after the grease gets some age on it. Want it fixed up like new? Myers Repair has got you covered, total repair cost will be *$85.

*Cost is new gasket and grease, any worn or damaged gears will increase the cost.

Bosch's take on maintaining a clean and functioning dishwasher.

Use a dishwasher cleaner a few times a year to remove grease, starch, and protein residues. Simply add one box of cleaner to the bottom of your empty dishwasher and run the hottest, longest cycle.

To remove hard water deposits and limescale buildup, use a dishwasher safe descaler a few times a year. Simply start the longest, hottest wash cycle on an empty dishwasher (don't add detergent). After 30 minutes add one box of descaler to the bottom of your dishwasher and let the wash cycle continue. Once that cycle has finished, run another wash cycle.

Some dishwasher models use softening salt to soften the hard water that enters the dishwasher. Softening salt is a great way to soften the hard water used in your dishwasher. Review your owner's manual to see if your dishwasher utilizes softening salt. If it does, simply pour the salt into the salt container, which is inside the dishwasher.

Is Your Fridge Working Harder Than It Should?
GE recommends checking your refrigerator condenser coils at least twice a year. Dust and pet hair clog them up, forcing your fridge to work overtime shortening an already short life cycle and potentially causing cooling issues.

Here's the fix:

-Unplug the fridge(*for your safety, the fan and compressor turn on randomly and I am assuming you like your fingers attached and in working order), when pulling the fridge out be careful about the water line, pull it out to far and your kitchen will be the newest splash pad around.
-Locate the coils (usually on the back or underneath)
-Vacuum them with a brush attachment
*Side not for garage fridges or places you don't care about dust being blow everywhere just use a leaf blower)
-Plug back in
