Last week we had the pleasure of offering a self-limpia ceremony for folks in the herbal apprenticeship program. After 10 years of facilitating traditional medicine classes for QTBIPOC and BIPOC only, we’ve just recently opened some of our circles to comrades. We feel ready for this because we understand that we ALL come from indigenous people who were connected to the earth, elements and ancestors at some point in time. We see the importance of all people learning about and connecting with the practices, plants and other natural instruments that their people use(d) for everyday health and healing. When we do this, we see just how universal so much of this earth-based medicine is. Thank you to BHC students for approaching the self-limpia ceremony with much respect and for participating with such tender self and community care. We had a wonderful visit and we’re excited to do it again! In fact, we’ll be back in just a few weeks for ‘Embracing Endings’, our 6-week death companion 101 class that weaves in aspects of curanderismo. This class is also open to QTBIPOC and Comrades🌿💐🌿

Last Friday we began a weekend immersion of Grief Rituales with our QTBIPOC and Comrades kin. We still barely have words for the ancestral and elemental portal we co-created together. A special thank you to the pouring rain, thunder, & lightening that held and guided our journey together. We pray folks are feeling grounded in their ancestral medicine and feel more prepared to hold ceremonial space for themselves and others💐💧💐

our first few hours together and we’re already crying and cracking up😭🤣🥺🤭

Protect Trans Lives…in life and in end of life💕🦋

Repost from

Trans people are being targeted in ways that feel relentless.

In policies. In headlines. In everyday life.
It can feel constant. It can feel exhausting.

And still, trans people are here.

There is a kind of power that comes from that.

From continuing anyway.

From choosing to live, to love, to take up space in a world that keeps trying to narrow it.

There is a collective energy that cannot be erased.

Built through care, through community, through generations who refused to disappear.

You can feel it in the way people show up for each other.

In the way joy finds its way back. In the way futures are still being imagined, even now.

At Lyon-Martin, we see the weight of what is happening.

And we also see the strength it takes to move through it.

We are here to protect, to care, and to stand with trans communities.

Not just today, but in every fight, every moment, every future still being carved out.

💕🦋

We at Floripondio are asking for your financial support for a Black mother, Doula, and community member, Jamila George. Jamila is currently 8 months pregnant, mothering two young children, and mourning the loss of her one year old child. At this time, she is raising funds for a home birth and for the ceremonial grief support that she is very much needing. Please consider giving toward Jamila’s fundraiser today and sharing this post widely💛*Link in Jamila’s bio.

“Hi my name is Jamila, and I am a black-low-income-single mother of two babies, a three-year-old, a 10-month old baby and I am currently 9-months pregnant. I am currently grieving the loss of my one-year-old who passed away in August 2025. I plan on having a home-birth to avoid scrutiny, discrimination, criminalization, and harassment due to my race, class, gender, and familial status.I have also experienced medical kidnapping and medical racism and dismissal in hospital settings and to further avoid retraumatizing my family and myself, I have decided to have a home birth, midwives for home births are not covered by my health insurance so I am reaching out to community for loving support. My due date is in April this year, any and all support helps, even prayers for opportunities and open doors, my family and I appreciate your support with loving gratitude.” 💛

We are so excited to be offering this gathering for the first time in Huchiun (Oakland, CA). This weekend training in ceremonial death & grief care is for healthcare professionals, birthworkers, and other space holders.

In this gathering we will take time to remember traditional, nature-based ways of relating to the end. With the assistance of the ancestors, elements, and plants, participants will explore their own relationship to death and grief and learn practical and hands-on ways to support their clients and communities.

This offering came together by request from folks who wanted to learn more about how to create ritual in times of transition. It’s a great opportunity for people who’ve taken other Floripondio classes and workshops to deepen in their journeys and for anyone who hasn’t been in circle with us before, to get to know more about ceremonial death and grief care.

WHEN:  April 10 - 12, 2026

*Fri April 10 (5-8pm), *Sat April 11 (10 am - 6pm), & *Sun April 12 (10am - 2pm)

WHERE: Dimond District, Oakland/Ohlone Land  (exact location will be sent to registered participants)

WHO: This offering is for QTBIPOC*, BIPOC* & Comrades*! That’s right, it’s open for all folks who come in a good way!

WHAT TO EXPECT:
✨Learn practical and hands-on ways to support clients and community members including working with altars, pláticas, and holding grief circles.

✨Explore our personal relationships to loss and endings.

✨Share insights on life, death and loss with Gualikuya and Batul, as well as other experienced folks in the group.

✨Deepen in the foundations of Curanderismo, a holistic earth-based health care system that works to keep all elements of our being in balance.

✨Build community in pairs and through group shares, and experiential learning to encourage connection.

This course is offered at a sliding scale exchange. Payment plans are available. We are also offering one full scholarship and/or work trade for Black and/or Palestinian folks.

The application deadline is Friday, March 27th, or when full.

✨Death isn’t always a physical dying. Sometimes it’s the death of parts of ourself, old stories, or the end of attachments.

Birth is sometimes rebirth.

As I release what no longer serves me, I am reborn.

I have had the great honor of receiving a Taino name, Gualikuya. It is pronounced “Gwa-lee-koo-ya” and means ✨Child of Light✨.

From this point forward, I will be going by Gualikuya Mariposa.

I also wanted to make sure everyone knows that I identify as Two-Spirit and non-binary and I use they/them pronouns.

I acknowledge my African and Indigenous ancestors who lived beyond the gender binary and as bridges between worlds.

✨Dabunpuli. Thank you for honoring this simultaneous ending and rebirth.✨
