Born in St. Ann, Jamaica, Garvey dedicated his life to advocating for Black pride, economic empowerment, and unity through his Universal Negro Improvement Association (UNIA).

Despite being convicted of mail fraud in the U.S. in 1923—a charge many have long criticized—Marcus Garvey’s trial and imprisonment have been widely viewed as politically motivated.
