I had the honor of speaking , sponsored by ASMP Ohio Valley Chapter to emerging and experienced photographers. What a gift to pour into the next generation of creatives as well as share best practices with my peers.
I shared my journey from being “sentenced to get a real job” by my parents… to becoming a 40-year entrepreneur… to finally stepping into my dream career as a corporate and event photographer.

A few key messages I shared:
📸 Event photography is like sports photography — you’ve got to know the game.
Anticipation, timing, positioning, and intuition matter just as much as the camera.
📸 A skilled event photographer can make a modest event look amazing… and an unskilled one can make a beautiful event look flat.
That’s why craft, discipline, and intention matter.
📸 When you try to shoot everything, you end up mastering nothing.
Finding your lane isn’t limiting — it’s liberating.
📸 Your value isn’t in the camera. It’s in your eye, your judgment, your timing, and your reliability.
Own that. Stand on that. Charge for that.
📸 You don’t earn trust with your camera. You earn it with your consistency.

Speaking to fellow photographers reminded me why I love what I do — the art, the responsibility, the storytelling, and the opportunity to build a life through creativity and service.

I’m excited, honored — and yes, a little scared — to be giving my first official talk on a topic I care deeply about:
“Event Photography Is Like Sports Photography… You Gotta Know the Game!” 🎤📸
After 17 years as an event photographer, I’ve learned that this genre is often misunderstood and underestimated. Too many people think it’s simple — just show up with a camera and start clicking. But those of us who do this work know better.
Event photography is a responsibility.
You’re showing the client in their best light.
You’re telling the story.
You’re capturing the energy, the people, the relationships, the vibe — all in real time.
So I’m grateful for the opportunity to step on stage in Ohio and share what really goes into this craft. The timing, the anticipation, the professionalism, and the eye for moments that matter.
I can’t wait to pour into the next generation and give event photography the respect it deserves.
