For nearly two decades, we’ve helped nonprofits, foundations, and mission-driven organiz Change Consulting is a Black-led, women-run communications agency based in Oakland, California, committed to social and racial justice. We also believe communications is fundamental to the work that changemakers do to strengthen our communities through systems change. We believe effective communications makes good possible. For the past 12 years, Change Consulting has worked in service of and in partnership with changemakers – visionaries at nonprofits, foundations and mission-driven entities – who are committed to making love and justice a reality. We have a particular focus on racial justice, including criminal justice reform, economic justice, youth empowerment, social determinants of health, equitable development and civic engagement. Last week, team members from our Strategy and Digital/Content teams traveled to Sacramento for a storytelling training with grantee partners of The Center at Sierra Health Foundation’s Transform Youth Justice program.

The session covered essential principles for ethical storytelling, effective methods for collecting and sharing stories, and strategic guidance on highlighting the vision, leadership, and contributions of youth and individuals with lived experience.

We are grateful for the opportunity to facilitate such a meaningful experience.

Black Futures Lab Executive Director Kristin Powell Kristin Danielle recently participated in a panel during the 55th Annual Legislative Conference to highlight how BFL is harnessing Black lived experiences and voices to build political power, influence policy, and advance advocacy with the 2026 Black Census Project.

This year’s Black Census aims to reach 300,000 Black Americans and explores issues such as the role and makeup of the Supreme Court, and whether the Electoral College should be reformed to a national popular vote.
