As part of our commitment to transparency across our Uptown Oakland developments, our parent company Behring Co. has published a comprehensive community briefing for 415 20th Street.

To provide full context on 415 20th Street, the property houses an existing 20,000 square foot computing facility that operated for Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory for nearly two decades. Rather than any ground-up industrial development, Behring Co. is modernizing this purpose-built asset as part of the broader STAK Ventures ecosystem. Ground floor research computing occupies approximately 1.9 percent of the total 1.26 million square foot campus footprint, serving as an on-site technical amenity for three floors of office, lab, and research space directly above it.

Because the site was engineered for high-density computing decades ago, upgrades utilize existing PG&E power feeds, closed-loop cooling systems, and clean renewable grid power without requiring new utility substations or heavy street construction.

The broader investment by Behring Co. in Uptown Oakland centers on a full-stack real estate model where housing, commercial workspace, and specialized infrastructure support one another. Having delivered 452 residential apartments at and premium office space at 1950 Franklin, 415 20th Street serves as the dedicated technical engine for this broader four-acre campus.

Providing specialized hardware access allows Behring Co. to attract AI, robotics, and computational research teams whose employees can live, work, and collaborate locally across these properties. In turn, these growing companies bring high-paying research jobs and daily foot traffic that support STAK Space coworking operations, local retailers, and the broader downtown economy, supporting roughly 2,000 potential jobs across the commercial footprint.
