Be The Change Consulting

We offer experiential trainings, hands-on coaching, and curriculum development to help organizations shift their organizational cultures and practices.

Be the Change Consulting provides high quality learning experiences and consulting for organizations to reach their potential. We do this through an intentional process that connects core values to organizational outcomes while providing research-based strategies, experiential learning techniques, and live coaching on real issues. Our solutions engage clients in creative problem-solving, provide a

lignment to research and best practices, and offer strategies to institutionalize organizational change. Our work is backed by both research and field-tested experience. Instead of teaching through presentation and lectures , we promote self-discovery and group dialogue to activate curiosity and co-construct meaning—to ultimately combine passion with precision. We pilot, incubate, evaluate, then sustain. We simultaneously build ideas on paper while testing in the field. This allows for a continuous refinement as we experiment with new ideas, incorporate feedback from stakeholders, and listen to the voices of those most often left out when ideas are being born. This creates tailored solutions that are welcomed by communities.

Dear Community,

As part of Be the Change's ongoing reflection on the impact of platform ownership and leadership, we’ve come to realize that our values no longer align with the systems upheld by the “broligarchy.” While this space has been a valuable platform for connection, learning, and growth, we are choosing to take steps toward greater alignment with our mission and values.

We recognize that many of the platforms we use are still connected to these systems, and this journey is not simple. However, we are actively seeking new ways to disentangle ourselves while continuing to share information and education that uplifts and strengthens humanity.

On the eve of MLK Day and the inauguration of Donald Trump, my Belonging Resident Company performed at the Oakland Museum of California in an unforgettable panel discussion on belonging and democracy. The event featured the incredible John Powell and a powerful keynote by former Congresswoman Barbara Lee. Meeting my hero and sharing stories of resistance, healing, and activism through Playback Theater was an honor. Grateful to be part of this meaningful space for reflection and action.

Education is rooted in the sharing of stories and wisdom across generations. While some may attempt to restrict access to books, the power of collective learning remains unstoppable. We honor and amplify the voices of Black American leaders because Black History is, and always will be, American History. Susie Baker King Taylor was that girl before anyone even knew what that meant. The first Black teacher to openly run a school for formerly enslaved African Americans in Georgia, she wasn’t just teaching—she was making history. And let’s talk about her writing game: Susie was the only African American woman to drop a wartime memoir, Reminiscences of My Life in Camp with the 33d United States Colored Troops, Late 1st S.C. Volunteers. Yeah, she did that.

Born on August 6, 1848, in Liberty County, Georgia, to enslaved parents, Susie was not about to let the system define her. At seven, she moved to Savannah to live with her grandmother, and when Georgia’s anti-education laws tried to block her, she said, "Bet." She hit up secret schools run by Black women and even got two rule-breaking white kids to help her level up her literacy. Susie took matters into her own hands and didn’t just learn for herself—she built a legacy for others. She was, and will always be, the blueprint.

Bring yourself and your team, and learn how to pave the pathway towards equity work by exploring the complexity and intersectionality of identity by building a foundational understanding of individual, interpersonal, institutional, and ideological oppression.

Participants will connect aspects of identity to inclusion and exclusion from dominant culture and explore common terms and definitions in equity work so that the group can hold deeper conversations about the impact of white supremacy beliefs on the organizational culture.

Dr King would have been celebrating his 96th birthday this week. Though he lived but a brief 39 years, he scattered the seeds of his quest for justice far and wide. Those ideals continue to inspire today’s leaders. During our appreciation week of him, we want to lift up a few of them. An enduring racial and civil rights advocate in the Bay Area, today ’s string of successes includes being elected to Congress, representing California’s 12 congressional district; adding change through grant-making organizations like the Meadow Fund and the Akonadi Foundation; and launching the Second Chance Legal Services Clinic, protecting communities of color, and low-income persons, immigrants, and refugees.

Antiracist supervisors take intentional steps to create equitable and supportive work environments. They nurture through difference by sharing their own racial identity and inviting team members to do the same, creating space for authenticity and understanding. They reflect on how dominant cultural norms shape relationships and organizations, challenging these norms to uplift marginalized voices.

Historically, the path to voting for African Americans was obstructed by literacy tests, poll taxes, and intimidation until the original Voting Rights Act cleared the way. But as many of those gains were being eroded in recent years, Stacey Adams stepped up. The former Georgia State representative built voter-protection teams, founded the Atlanta-based nonprofit advocacy group Fair Fight, and promoted fair elections nationwide.
