After two years, the advisory board (IoTAB) report is out! Appointed by the Secretary of Commerce in 2022, sixteen experts from across industry and academia worked to develop recommendations for the federal government to consider to address barriers and accelerate adoption of IoT. The report has been delivered to the IoT Federal Working Group (IoTFWG), who will then develop their plan and recommendations taking into account the findings and recommendations in this report.

The report shared 26 findings, and 104 recommendations. The recommendations were organized around the six areas below. There are a number of specific recommendations for

Last week, the U.S. Department of Commerce announced the appointment of 16 experts to the newly created Internet of Things Advisory Board. We are pleased to share that Benson Chan from our company has been appointed to chair this advisory board. The board is comprised of 16 IoT experts from across industry, academia and disciplines.

Over the next several months, this board will be advising the federal government on a number of strategic topics that promote and accelerate the development of IoT, the value created and the applications where it can deliver significant and scalable economic benefits to the United States. Some topic areas include regulations, policies, programs, as well as application areas including but not limited to smart traffic and transit technologies, augmented logistics and supply chains, environmental monitoring and health care.

We look forward to seeing great things from the IoT Advisory Board!

If you haven’t had the opportunity to watch our presentation on Smart Cities we gave back in November, check it out through the link below! Our cofounders, Renil and Benson, dive deep into smart cities and the processes that make them successful.

KEY TAKEAWAYS:
• The definition of a smart city is evolving, and continues to do so
• Prioritize outcomes, not technology in smart cities
• Smart cities are built by the “ecosystem,” not just cities
• COVID-19 has shifted smart city priorities
• Know the difference between the smart city technology providers
• Don’t focus solely on cities; Many opportunities exist in the “ecosystem”

Again, we welcome any questions you may have, and you can contact us through our website, individually, or through a comment down below!

Where are some early opportunities for and ? What do you get started?

We shared some thoughts and practical advice on the CompTIA Emerging Technologies community virtual session recently. We were joined by our distinguished colleagues Jonathan Weiss (Amazon Web Services (AWS)), Robert Forget (Aware360), Ray Orsini (OIT, LLC | OITVOIP). Thanks to Khali Henderson (BuzzTheory) and Adam Proulx (CompTIA) for organizing and facilitating the session.

Outreach to our friends and partners. We are recruiting speakers and panelists for two events on Smart Cities and IoT. The first event will be virtual and is part of a broader IoT M2M Council’s online event in December. The second event will be live, and is part of the IoT M2M Council’s track at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in the first week of January, 2022 in Las Vegas.

We're planning the speaking sessions now, and it will revolve around four themes:

1. Digital Divide
2. Sensing and Monitoring
3. Smart city infrastructure (streets, roads, transportation, buildings, etc.)
4. Cybersecurity

We are especially interested in those who have planned, completed or deploying projects in these areas, especially those who are end users. If you, or anyone you know is interested in participating in any of these, please let us know and reach out to us here. Please also share this with your network.

We will be talking on the SEMI - MEMS & Sensors Industry Group (MSIG) webinar next Friday (November 12 @ 8 am PST). Topic will be “Smart cities and sensors - how to maximize the opportunity and what not to do”.

Abstract: are an integral part of future smart cities. However, while industry analysts have predicted huge revenue opportunities for smart cities and sensor manufacturers, the actual scaling and building of smart cities and their projects has been slow. There are many aspects of smart city projects that make them difficult to accomplish: Who is the customer? Which organizations in the city have the money? How do I make money from my smart city project? Which sensors are needed? What are the best smart city projects right now? What will happen with smart cities in the future? This webinar provides a unique perspective on smart cities directly from smart city project developers who have learned what NOT to do when creating and executing a smart city project. We will also provide guidance for sensor technology providers on what TO DO by identifying the best smart city project opportunities and challenges.

The webinar is free, but registration is required. More information at https://lnkd.in/gphkr6gD

Hope to see you all there!
