At Opus One, preparations for harvest begin long before the first clusters are picked. From light towers and Bobard tractors to trailers and pallets, our team readies the equipment that will support the season ahead. Using our in-house plasma table, team members design and fabricate custom parts to repair and strengthen essential machinery, then carefully weld and reinforce each component to ensure it performs reliably throughout harvest. The light towers, in particular, play a vital role, illuminating the vineyards during the dim hours of early morning.

Through the craftsmanship and dedication of our vineyard team, every detail is meticulously considered, ensuring the Estate is prepared to receive the new vintage.

Some views are best saved for last.

Once your tasting concludes, we invite you to the Terrace, where a final perspective of the Estate awaits. With the approaching harvest, deep purple clusters cascade down the rows with the promise of a new vintage, and offer a serene moment of reflection before the light softens and the day settles into evening.

Sound on to experience “Papillons de Fontainebleau”, the award-winning work by Nora Popescu, recipient of the 2026 Opus One International Prize for Composition and newly appointed Composer in Residence.

Inspired by the butterflies that inhabit the forest surrounding the Château de Fontainebleau, Nora's five-movement composition translates fleeting moments in nature into music. Each movement is dedicated to a different species, capturing its color, character, and grace through sound.

Established in partnership with the Fontainebleau Schools of Music and Fine Arts, the Opus One International Prize for Composition honors our founders' belief in artistic excellence, cultural exchange, and craftsmanship without borders.

Some stories are written in clay.

Commissioned for a unique alcove in the Terrace's South Stairwell, "The Queen and the Lizard" by ceramic artist Kala Stein reimagines two constellations, Cassiopeia and Lacerta, in brown and black clay and porcelain, glazed in midnight blue and gold and backlit with soft light. As Stein describes it, the ‘clayness’ of the piece is a quiet reminder of how terroir shapes both art and wine.

Opus One is pleased to serve as the Honorary Site Host for the Napa Valley Grapegrowers’ Harvest STOMP. As the event’s Honorary Chair, winemaker Michael Silacci reflects on the significance of this moment:

“For nearly a decade, I have had the privilege of serving on the board of the Napa Valley Grapegrowers including two years as President. During that time, I have witnessed - and been continually inspired by - the dedication of our local grape growing community. It is a commitment rooted in the long-term stewardship of the land we love, and in uplifting the people whose hands, resilience, and passion make Napa Valley possible.

Through Harvest STOMP, the organization’s annual live auction, that commitment is transformed into meaningful action, benefiting both the Napa Valley Grapegrowers and the Napa Valley Farmworker Foundation We are honored to host this year’s gathering at Opus One, united in support of the people, land, and future of Napa Valley.”

As veraison progresses, the Opus One vineyard team devotes its attention to the careful balance of vine and fruit. With the canopy now fully developed, each vine is evaluated shoot by shoot, assessing vigor, length, thickness, and overall capacity to support its crop load. These observations guide any necessary adjustments, carrying forward the decisions made during pruning and suckering while promoting even ripening and vine balance across the Estate.

Opus One 2022 in half bottle was crafted for a quiet toast, an evening shared, a pour meant for two. Expressive aromas of blueberry, cassis, and dried rose petals are woven with notes of olive, cigar box, and graphite. The palate is layered with cocoa, fresh orange peel, and vibrant red fruit, revealing both depth and balance. A finish marked by vanilla, wet stone, and a delicate hint of coffee lingers long after the final sip.

Late summer reveals itself in the smallest details.

On the Terrace, the Skylight, designed by architect Scott Johnson of Johnson Fain, catches the light of the day as the sun moves across Napa Valley. Around it, the Terrace's wooden lattice casts a grid of light and shadow across every surface, glass, walls, and floor alike.

Reservations available through October 31st.

Art takes many forms. It can be found on a canvas, in a performance, or a piece of music, but also in the sounds that give a place its voice. At Opus One, the chorus of birds in the Courtyard, wildlife moving through the vineyards, rainfall across the Estate, and wine being poured all speak to a landscape alive with expression. It is this connection between nature, creativity, and human experience that inspired us to help co-found Festival Napa Valley two decades ago. Earlier this month, we were honored to celebrate the Festival’s 20th anniversary - and the enduring power of the arts to inspire, connect, and enrich our world.
