What are you doing to cultivate and steward yourself clients and donors? ✨⁠

Yesterday l, I had the pleasure to listen to Rashad Jones speak at the Ocala Metro Chamber and Economic Partnership’s ExCEPtional morning breakfast in Ocala and he hit the nail right on the head - “you can have the best products and the best team in the world but if you don’t have clients, you don’t have a business” ⁠

Clients are the bread and butter to any company. Businesses should find ways to appreciate, retain and strategically drive additional revenue through current consumers, and identify and cultivate new clients. ⁠

1️⃣ Research & Identification ⁠

Understanding their passion points, tracking interests and offering similar services/items, or finding a group relevant to your niche. 🔎⁠

2️⃣ Prospect (or current client) cultivation ⁠

Building relationships is key in any business. Find unique and personalized ways to learn about your customers to help you with strategizing for #1 in the cycle, and building long-term commitment to your brand. 👍🏻⁠

3️⃣ Gift (purchase) management ⁠

Saying “thank you” goes a LONG way and developing efficient processes for a consumer experience is critical to building trust and ultimately having happy customers. 🥰⁠

4️⃣ Stewardship & Engagement ⁠

Let's talk basics - brand identity! 🥰

A brand to a business is like stripes to a zebra. 🦓 Without its stripes, the animal could be mistaken for a miniature pony or even a donkey! Your business is the same way, and your identity defines and reinforces your reputation as a brand.

There are two main components of branding:
▫️Visual Identity
▫️Brand Strategy

While there may be some overlap with the two, the visual identity is what you see as recognizable graphic elements, colors and fonts versus the voice and values of a company. Each of these elements should support the other and help create continuity of the overall external perception of the business.

Here are the 5 basic foundational elements of a brand that every business should have:

✔️ Logo - I know, I know, seems simple enough, but you wouldn't believe how many businesses and nonprofits I have worked with that did not have a business logo! 😳

✔️Appearances - consistent color theme, typography & graphic elements 💛

✔️Voice/Personality - values and positioning: friendly, approachable educational 😎

✔️Purpose - mission, tagline and strategic objectives 📋

✔️Targeted Audience - consumer niche and competition differentiation 🔍

This was my favorite part of preparing for the launch of DVLP, and while I thought I knew quite a bit about branding through typography and color theme - I was excited to learn about color psychology and seasonal color theory! 💛🧡🤎

DVLP is categorized as a "fall brand season" according to wittandcompany.com. This truly made me happy when the brand identity I wanted to adhere to fell within the values and brand voice I envisioned for the company.

Does anyone else have a struggle with self-motivation? 🙋🏼‍♀️

In my progress of preparing to launch DVLP I had two main objectives:

1.) Set SMART goals for the overall launch (scheduled for 8/8), which included a soft launch on social to build awareness and a following and allowed me time to generate additional content for the monthly subscription boxes and workshops.

2.) Be kind to myself but push forward.
This was such a simple concept, but there were so many days when I would roll-in from work to put on my mom hat, and before I knew it, it was 9pm and I was exhausted.

Some days I gave every waking moment I had, others I was too tired to function. But every day, even when I was not “feeling it”, I sucked it up and did one thing.

▫️I picked my brand fonts.
▫️I made one social post.
▫️I read one chapter of a book for continuing education.
▫️Created the first few questions for an on-boarding survey.

When my heart was not in the mood to sing, I sang anyway. Before I knew it, I realized how much I had accomplished. On the days that I was super productive and checked-off a TON from my list, I appreciated the work and templates I had created for myself. 🥰

It’s hard to stay the course and it’s easy to make excuses. We find out how much we truly want something when we are faced with days that we sing without a tune.

My favorite quote of ALL TIME is by Emily Dickinson that says: “hope is the thing with feathers, that perches in the soul, and sings the tune without the words, and never stops at all.” 💛

Don’t stop. Keep going. You got this! 💪🏼
