Debris collection for vegetative and tree debris resulting from Hurricane Milton in Marion County will begin on Wednesday, October 16, 2024. Collection will begin with the major road networks first.

Residents are encouraged to place debris at the edge of the roadway in unobstructed areas, away from trees, power lines, fire hydrants, or any other obstructions that may impede collection efforts.

The deadline to have debris placed out for pick-up is by the end of the day on October 27, 2024.

Please note that this service is exclusively for tree debris and vegetative material; it does not include yard clippings, construction debris, household garbage, or lot clearing.

In addition to this debris pick-up service, three citizen debris drop-off sites have been established and will be open from October 13 through October 27, 2024, from 8 AM to 7 PM.

The drop-off locations are as follows:

✅Next to Belleview Public Library - 13145 SE County Highway 484, Belleview, FL 34420
✅SW Hwy 484 and SW 57th Ave Road - 5700 SW Hwy 484, Ocala, FL 34473
✅NE Jacksonville Road - 5823 NE Jacksonville Road, Ocala, FL 34479

These sites are for noncommercial debris only and residents must show I.D. proof that they live in an unincorporated area within Marion County.

Please note that this service is specifically for tree debris and vegetative material and does not include yard clippings, construction debris, household garbage, or debris from lot clearing.

This weekend, all recycling centers will resume normal hours! 🗑️
We're open on Saturday, October 12, and Sunday, October 13, from 9 AM to 5 PM for household garbage.

PLEASE STAY OFF OF THE ROADWAYS UNLESS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY

As day breaks and we begin to get a full picture of the damage caused by Hurricane Milton, the urge to get out and assess the damage, or return to normal life is understandable, but it’s crucial to stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary.

Here’s why:

• Debris: Roads may still be blocked by debris or downed powerlines.
• Electricity Outages: With power outages across the county, several red lights are affected. If a traffic light is out, treat it as a four-way stop!
• Emergency Response: Staying off the roads helps first responders, road clearing, and utility crews clear debris and restore services faster.
• Potential Flooding: Floodwaters can contain dangerous chemicals and sewage or downed power lines.

What to Do Instead:

• Stay informed: Follow Marion County Sheriff’s Office on Facebook and monitor local weather updates.
• Report Outages: Report electricity outages to your power company.

• Report Downed Trees and Powerlines: Call the non-emergency line at (352) 732-9111 or the Citizens Information Line at (352) 369-7500.

• Do NOT attempt to move power lines or handle trees that are tangled in them. Even if the power appears to be out, lines may still be live, or a nearby generator could cause them to reenergize through backfeeding.

• Be Patient: Cleanup and recovery take time, and while it’s inconvenient to stay put, it’s far better to be safe than to risk harm on the roads.

Your safety and the safety of others depend on staying off the roads until hazards are clear. Help us recover from Hurricane Milton as quickly and safely as possible!

Team members will be on standby later on this afternoon as the storm approaches.

Besides search and rescue, the Team will be available for wellness checks. If you can’t reach a love one or family member reach out to the Team. If we are available and the situation is safe we will send a team to try to make contact.

Once winds speeds approach 45 miles per hour, the Team will not be able to respond.
