🎉 Harrison's Harbor Watch grants special wish for a local foundation in Ocean City 🎈

If you could have one wish, what would it be? For John Joseph Dyer II, his wish was to eat a nice meal at Harrison’s Harbor Watch in Ocean City, while watching the boats come in during the 51st Annual White Marlin Open.

Thanks to the Twilight Wish Foundation and Harrison Group Hotels & Restaurants, Mr. Dyer had his wish fulfilled to be able to enjoy a seafood dinner and gaze at the parade of 318 boats en route to the scales to see who will bring in the estimated prize of $8.5 million. “We’re not changing the world, we’re just putting a smile on a senior’s face, one senior at a time,” Dryzga said. The foundation aims at celebrating elderly individuals on Delmarva, giving those like Dyer the opportunity to choose an experience they’ve always wanted to have, and live it out, surrounded by their loved ones.

Gillis Gilkerson completed the ground-up construction of a stunning office building for the Harrison Group, a wellknown Ocean City hospitality enterprise that operates many of the resort town’s finest hotels and restaurants.

Located at 1801 Philadelphia Avenue, the + / - 9,800 square foot office building contains space for over thirty offices, allowing the growing firm to centralize its Sales, Marketing, Graphic Design, Accounting, Administration and Executive Offices all under one roof for the first time in company history.

The building exterior features a strong coastal aesthetic, utilizing a standing seam metal roof, NuCedar shake siding and multiple lanais to give the complex stunning curb appeal. An open-air lobby highlights a two-story glass curtain wall, a reclaimed teak staircase with matching decorative wood panels, and a custom chandelier. The interior’s design incorporates high-end finishes throughout the space, giving the office areas, coffee bar, breakroom, and executive boardrooms a luxurious feel on par with the building’s stunning facade and entryway. Employees can also enjoy canal access, water views, and brick-paved gathering space under the pergolas.

Having left an unforgettable mark on Ocean City's hospitality landscape, the Harrison Group decided to expand south in 2012 with the purchase and total renovation of the Hampton Inn & Suites Outer Banks/Corolla. The only hotel in the area, the Hampton Inn Corolla is an oceanfront escape from the hustle and bustle of ones' daily life. It sits peacefully amongst the surrounding nature and offers guests a tranquil destination to unwind.

A few years later, in 2016 The Harrison Group expanded into the Virginia Beach market and then in 2023 into Jacksonville, Florida.

The Harrison Group can be defined in Ocean City as pioneers on many fronts, and another one of those is constructing the first ever all-suite property. The Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites was built in 2001 and sits oceanfront on the boardwalk on 17th street, a prime Ocean City location.

The property was recently renovated, still offering all-suite accommodations with breathtaking ocean views. Each suite boasts a private balcony, perfect for savoring the seaside atmosphere. Relax in the three pool areas, including indoor and elevated outdoor pools. Come enjoy a refreshing cocktail or snack by the pool at The Deep End Bar & Grill, or step inside to Coral Reef for an innovative menu of island cuisine.

In 1980, Hale and John did something they had never done before, they built their own hotel from the ground up. The Holiday Inn Oceanfront was originally a 6-story oceanfront hotel that brought the world-recognized Holiday Inn brand to the Harrison's portfolio. Currently the Holiday Inn Oceanfront stands at 9 floors and is home to Ocean City's original swim-up pool bar. The Holiday Inn Oceanfront was also the first hotel in Ocean City to construct EV charging stations for their guests, a trend that has spread to many other locations in the area.

John and Hale purchased their first brand hotel in 1973: the Quality Inn Oceanfront on 54th Street in Ocean City, MD. A hotel that still operates today, the Quality Inn Oceanfront is a unique property which offers guests a 5-story atrium built directly into the center of the hotel. It's something that our guests love and shows how the Harrison Group thinks differently in order to build unique and memorable experiences for our guests. Quality Inn still dazzles guests with their wide array of tropical birds and fish.

In 1970, Hale and John would, for the first time, buy a hotel on their own: the Plimhimmon Hotel, which current Ocean City travelers might recognize as the Plim Plaza hotel. This 5-story, oceanfront hotel located directly on the famous Ocean City, Maryland boardwalk has been welcoming guests since 1970. The Plim Plaza is an icon amongst the few historic hotels still standing from the earlier times of Ocean City, Maryland.

Take a walk down memory lane with us to learn all about The Harrison Group’s roots. 🍑

Harrison’s Nurseries in Berlin, MD, was founded in 1884 by J.G. Harrison as a peach grower. The business grew into one of the largest tree and vegetable nurseries on the peninsula, and a nationwide nursery catalog business. Harrison’s Nurseries was known for its peaches, which were delivered to the Union Station railroad depot by horse-drawn wagons and loaded into railroad boxcars for shipment. Depending on the season, the nursery created between 250-500 jobs in the Berlin area.
