We’re still here but one of the largest 3D printing companies out there is going under!

Here's a story that's hitting close to home for those of us who geek out over gadgets and cutting-edge tech. Shapeways, once a shining star in the 3D printing world, has just hit a major roadblock—they've filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy. That's right, they're not just reorganizing; they're closing ...

Another successful reverse engineering project! Our client had some special lounge chairs that got a powder coat paint job and needed some new slides so they didn't leave black streaks on a white deck. New parts printed with glass fiber nylon for strength. Probably the strongest parts we have ever printed.

Client requested scaled models of three different types of bullets. We scanned each one and sized them so that the largest was around 15” tall. Client will be doing the finish work but they are exact replicas.

Our first hybrid material prototype. Client requested a hard plastic screw top with a flexible integrated cap. We printed the screw top using SLA resin and the cap using flexible FDM material. Now that the client has had an opportunity to touch and feel the prototype, version 2 is underway.

Another day of post processing SLA prints. After the parts come off the printer, they go into an alcohol bath for a primary rinse and then into a clean alcohol bath for a secondary rinse. After cleaning, they get heat and light cured in a special oven for an hour. Then, the supports get removed by hand. You can see the pile of supports in the second photo. Once the supports are removed, the parts are finished with razors, files, and fine sand paper to remove any nubs that remain from the supports. Sometimes they go on to clear coating or painting.

Thanks for looking and let us know if you ever need anything scanned, designed, or printed!

Hurricanes won’t stop us! Getting another set of SLA parts headed out the door. This material is Formlabs Tough 1500 which is designed to simulate polypropylene. Photos are of the curing process which is required following the printing and washing process to give the resin its full design strength.

This week we designed and printed some replacement parts for a “vintage” Nintendo gaming chair. We use the term vintage loosely because the chair is probably only about 20 years old 😂😂. We also printed some prototype parts with different types of Formlabs resins. Draft Formlabs resin prints in a fraction of the time that it takes for the engineering-grade Formlabs resins so it’s less expensive but maintains the same dimensional properties. Eventually, we plan to add laser sintering to our capabilities which will allow us to print exceptionally strong parts with extremely tight tolerances and amazing finishes.

Some projects take awhile to come to fruition. This one has been several years in the making but our client has done a remarkable job integrating a custom elliptical art piece we designed and printed for them as part of a kitchen remodel. Have a similar project in mind? We can help!

Several years ago, we designed some 3D printed cones to hold frosting bags for one of our first clients over at The Naked Cupcake. We are very excited that The Naked Cupcake has grown from a single food truck to a brick and mortar business in Lake Nona. So excited to be just a small but cool part of this growing business!

There are so many things made possible by 3D printing. This is our first opportunity to design, print, and post process jewelry. We received a special request to make a pair of earrings resembling the fabulous trash cans found throughout Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Got a special request? We can help you with the design and production!
