Coastal Bend Bays & Estuaries Program - Nueces Delta Preserve Nueces Delta Preserve The 11,000+ contiguous acre property near Odem provides a variety of habitats for investigation.

The Nueces Delta is home to the Coastal Bend Bays & Estuaries Program’s educational programs as well as being a highlight of its conservation and land management efforts. Students and teachers can study highly productive wetlands & prairies, as well as, the flora and fauna that call them home. p teachers to create a connection to nature using discovery-based strategies for their learning communities. Student-led data is a main focus of our education programs at the Nueces Delta Preserve. Students are helping us track what birds we see at the Nueces Delta Preserve. Other student data, including water quality are compiled for comparison and review. In addition to these education activities, Nueces Delta Preserve is the site of several research stations and conservation projects. We’ve re-established a prairie wetland, built nest boxes for owls, planted trees and burned invasive plants. Our land management efforts work to conserve the property, enhance the habitats and provide a space for learning in nature. The Nueces Delta Preserve is not open to the public at this time.

What is this? Did we just find a dinosaur at the Delta? This excellent bird is called a Greater Roadrunner and watching the roadrunner hunt is almost as enjoyable as watching a movie about dinosaurs (some might say it's better?). Would you like a chance to see a Greater Roadrunner? Come visit the Nueces Delta Preserve tomorrow June 13th from 5:30-8:30pm for our Delta Discovery Day. You may have noticed the time has changed from our other discovery days. Well, in the summer months we operate our Delta Discovery Day in the evening hours to avoid the hot daytime temperatures. Hello Friends!!!!!
Our next Delta Discovery Day falls on a very popular day. It is a day where 2 lifeforms profess their mutual bonds for one another. Can you guess what day we are talking about? It is February 14th!!!!!!!!!!!! Also known as….. you guessed it! Lichen Appreciation Day!!!!!!!! This may lead you to discover some thought-provoking questions such as: What is lichen? How is lichen? Where is lichen? Define symbiosis? Why is February 14th not considered another special day? Or is it? Come find out the answers to these pressing questions and many more when you join us at the Nueces Delta Preserve from 11am-2pm on February 14th.
It will be a fun-filled program discovering lichen, learning about symbiosis, making lichen crafts, and learning how you can like lichen too! You can even bring home your very own piece of lichen! We would lichen you to bring your family, bring your friends, and you can even bring your own sack lunch and join us on February 14th from 11am-2pm at the Delta.
