The Holy Spirit is a gentleman. He is not forceful.
There have been times I wanted to help someone see something the way the Lord has shown me. It helped me, so in return I wanted to help them. It came from a sincere place, but the Lord has been reminding me that we cannot open someone’s spiritual eyes to what they are not ready to see yet. We can love them, pray for them, and speak the truth in love, but only the Holy Spirit can reveal truth, convict hearts, and bring lasting change.
Sometimes we try to force our will, then wonder why it creates fallout, frustration, and stress. Forgive us, Lord.
Slow obedience or half obedience is still rebellion.
I am reminded that for me to truly know the good and perfect will of God, not merely the permissive will, it comes through oneness with Christ. In that intimacy we desire to know Him and please Him above all else. It becomes one will. Not mine, but His.
That means laying on the altar all I think I want, all I hope for, and all I believe I need, in order to receive what God is leading, guiding, and speaking. It means being willing to yield, to turn, to pivot when He changes direction, tells you to move, tells you to be still, or says no altogether.
I know this may be unpopular, but I do believe we should pray about everything. Philippians 4:6 says, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”
There are some things the Word of God has already made clear. I am referring to the things that look good, feel good, and seem right, yet may not be God’s actual perfect will (His best) for us. That doesn’t make it bad, it’s just God saying no and us choosing to obey Him and not go against Him.
For one that never works. We can trust Him to be with us even when we can’t understand it. He can be trusted even when it’s hard to accept it. That’s surrendering not in part, but in all things.
This can apply to the job we take, the person we marry, the friendships we keep, the hobbies we pursue, people we surround ourselves with, places we go, and the way we spend our time. It’s wise to heed the prompting, leading and sometimes warnings of the Holy Spirit.
Proverbs 16:9 says, “In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.”
God is in every detail. He knows us better than we know ourselves. He knows the beginning from the end. He knows how every path will unfold. That is why intimacy with Jesus matters so deeply. In His presence we learn to hear His voice before making decisions.
Just because something is good does not mean it is for you. Choosing to do so regardless, because it’s good is where we make a mess of things. That’s where we see our will in operation over His. This leads to destruction. 🙋🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
How much unnecessary hurt, confusion, and stress could be avoided if we truly learned to be still when it is not clear. To wait until we know. To trust God enough not to move ahead without peace.
When the answer is clear, who we choose to please in that says more about what we actually believe and who we really serve then what we confess. Is it God or self?
Do we seek His will first, or do we make the decision and then ask Him to bless it?
I have made this mistake too many times myself. But I am learning that when it is not clear, stillness is wisdom. Waiting is never wasted.
Sometimes something can be so good, yet still not be God’s perfect will for you. God will still be good and God in it, as we surrender control choosing to obey. It may not what be what we want to hear, but in the end it is always be what’s best.

Just because it is good does not mean it is God.
