That’s a wrap on our inaugural Summer School for Supervisors!

Twelve lunchtime sessions on practical topics supervisors face every week: the legal landscape, interviewing, delegation, difficult conversations, documentation, performance reviews, and partnering with HR. Good topics at a good time of day, built so people could actually use what they learned.

The feedback has been the best part. Supervisors told me they used the tools at work the same week. Their HR folks noticed too, and they told me the conversations coming to their desks looked different. That’s the whole point. Being good at the work isn’t the same as being prepared to supervise people, and that’s the gap I wanted to help close.

So we’re doing it again, with a little more edutainment this time. Introducing High Noon Ramrod: A Fistful of Practical Skills for Supervisors.

On a cattle drive, the ramrod was the trail boss. That’s the person responsible for keeping the herd moving, the crew working together, and everybody arriving in one piece. Sounds a lot like a supervisor to me.
