Desert West Environmental, LLC (DWE) is 100% woman-owned, Utah-based small, disadvantaged business enterprise that has provided comprehensive cultural and paleontological resources investigations; geoarchaeological soil studies; and bioanthropological analyses to our clients throughout the Western and Southeastern United States since 2011. We regularly complete power transmission and generation; transportation; oil and gas; mining; communications; fire and vegetation rehabilitation; investigation; and remediation projects for federal, state, and local agencies, engineering companies, and commercial developers. DWE has five (5) openings for Cultural Resources Specialist I (Archaeological Field Technicians) positions to conduct a Class III cultural resources inventory of the Great Basin Transmission (LS Power) Southwest Intertie Project (Idaho). These individuals will assist the Field Director and overall Project team in completing archaeological pedestrian surveys, archeological site recordation, and other field or office tasks in support of the Project.

𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁
The Project consists of approximately 140 miles of linear transmission line corridor (76 miles) and its access roads (64 miles). Archeological sites noted during the survey will be recorded using Idaho’s Archaeological Survey of Idaho (ASI) site form and Idaho Historic Sites Inventory (IHSI) form. Archaeological site types expected to fall within the Project corridor include, but are not limited to, prehistoric lithic scatters, historical debris scatters, and mining, agricultural, and transportation features. The Project is located between Twin Falls, Idaho and Jackpot, Nevada. Additional fieldwork on future projects may also be available after this project is completed.

𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗤𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀
• BA/BS or MA/MS in Anthropology/Archaeology or related field is preferred.
• Individuals who have completed an archaeological field school will also be considered.
• Qualified applicants must be able to work in harsh conditions while hiking 7-10 miles a day over rough terrain, carrying up to 30 pounds.
• Great Basin and/or Rocky Mountain experience is preferred but not required.

𝗣𝗮𝘆 𝗥𝗮𝘁𝗲
• $22/hour, overtime is paid over 40 hours per week.

𝗣𝗲𝗿 𝗗𝗶𝗲𝗺
• $59.00 per 8+ hour workday, prorated if the workday is under 8 hours.

𝗛𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗹
• Hotel will be paid by the Company for days worked, as well as the two days off between each field session. Hotel for the arrival date and last field day are also paid by the Company.

𝗧𝗿𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗹/𝗘𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗦𝘁𝗶𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗱
• A travel/equipment stipend of $125 per individual is also available for those who successfully work at least two field sessions (100 hours).

𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗲 & 𝗗𝘂𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻
Estimated to start the week of 06/12/2023, depending on staffing. Project is expected to last up to 10 days for survey and 20 days for site recording, for a crew of six. Workdays will be 9-10 hours long, including workday travel time, and field sessions are five (5) days on and two (2) days off (hotel paid by Company seven days per week).

𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻
DWE will provide transport to and from the Project hotel/Project location and travel time to/from the Project hotel/Project location will be paid.

𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 & 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀
Qualified applicants will report directly to the Field Director and will conduct Class III pedestrian survey (30m transects) of a minimum of seven (7) miles per day and record archaeological sites identified during the survey. No collection of artifacts is anticipated, and no subsurface testing will be performed. The terrain is primarily rolling hills, with some mountainous conditions.

Work involves up to three weeks (estimated 16-20 days) of archaeological survey and site recording north of Elko, Nevada (Elko County).

TASKS TO BE COMPLETED: up to 7447 acres of pedestrian survey acres (30m transect intervals) & recording of archaeological sites.

PER DIEM: $55/day (Prorated for hours worked, under 8 hours). Per diem is not provided for non-work days

ACCOMMODATIONS: May involve camping, but hotel or camping fees will paid for by Desert West Environmental, LLC. Camping equipment will not be provided. Hotel will be provided on days off between field sessions.

PAY SCHEDULE: Paychecks and per diem are paid every two weeks via direct deposit using DWE's standard pay schedule. Pay rate is by position, minimum $18.00 per hour.

QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum of a BA or BS in Archaeology, Anthropology, or related field. Must be physically able to hike 40+ acres per day through rough terrain while carrying a pack weighing up to 40lbs. The project area does have some steep areas (>30% slope) that will be spot checked for cultural resources. Current MSHA training is preferred.

ESTIMATED START DATE: September 7-14, 2020, depending on receipt of ARPA permit

THE PROJECT IS ON AN ACTIVE MINE SITE and is subject to Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) regulations. ***Applicants MUST be able to pass a 6-9 panel drug test and have current MSHA Part 48 Form 500-23. Current MSHA training is preferred, but MSHA training/refresher will be provided at employer's expense.***
