With temperatures on the rise, please make sure you, your family, friends, and pets are staying hydrated and drinking plenty of water.

☀️ Take regular breaks from the heat, stay in a cool place whenever possible, and listen to your body. If you begin feeling overheated, dizzy, weak, confused, or unwell, don’t ignore the warning signs.

🚨 If you or someone around you may need emergency assistance, DO NOT HESITATE TO DIAL 9-1-1. The sooner 9-1-1 is called, the sooner help can be on the way. Don’t wait to see if symptoms get worse.

👨‍🚒🚒🧯🔥 Firefighters wanted👨‍🚒🚒🧯🔥

Oil Center Volunteer Fire Department is looking for people willing to dedicate some of their time to first responding (Vol Firefighting).

If you live in the Oil Center area (Oil Center, Galey, Union Hill, north of the Center community, Goldens gas station area) and want to serve you community and neighborhoods, this could possibly be for you.

Oil Center V.F.D. runs emergencies that we are paged out to such as
-Grass & Wildland fires
-Strucutre (House & Building fires)
-Vehicle fires
-Misc fires
-Vehicle accidents
-Medical Emergencies
-Agency assist (Assisting other Fire Dept’s, E.M.S., & Law Enforcement)
-etc.

Just a few reasons you should join Oil Center V.F.D.

1. You can and will save someone’s life and or property.

2. You help others that unable to help themselves.

3. You work with and create good releationships with other first responders (surrounding fire dept, B.I.A. Wildland service, Mercy E.M.S., Pontotoc County Sheriff Deputies, Chickasaw Lighthorse Police Officers, Oklahoma Highway Patrol State State troopers.).

4. We will train you and assist you with experience.

5. You learn skills that could possibly benefit you by saving your own life, someone eles life, and/or property.

6. We have an understanding that you have an at home life and job and are not available 24/7 but that Is all of us as volunteers.

7. We are short handed and running calls that take at least 6 or 7 men to run when there is only 2 or 3 available at a time.

8. If you don’t have the regular Mon-Fri job and are off some weekdays, that’s even better because that is when we need people at lot of times.

The Fire Dept has monthly meetings every 2nd Tuesday of the month @ 07:00pm. Our next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday Sept 8, 2026 @ 07:00pm at the Oil Center fire station.

Feel free to stop by with any questions. The hardest part is walking through the door the first time ever. Don’t be shy. We’ll be more than happy to help you out (there are no stupid questions either, so you can ask us anything).

🚨 BURN BAN IN EFFECT — PONTOTOC COUNTY 🚨
As of the Pontotoc County Commissioners’ meeting this morning, Pontotoc County is now under a 14-day burn ban.
The burn ban will remain in effect through Monday, September 7, 2026, unless the County Commissioners decide to lift or extend it sooner.

🔥 Please do NOT burn during the burn ban.
If you see any burning or smoke within Pontotoc County, do not hesitate to call 9-1-1 so the situation can be reported and addressed.

⚠️ Be aware: Violating a burn ban may result in legal consequences.
Please help keep our community safe and protect our homes, property, and firefighters. Share this information with your friends, family, and neighbors.

After responding to two separate fires earlier yesterday, our firefighters were called around 9 p.m. to a fire involving nearly a couple hundred hay bales.
Crews worked to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading. These types of fires can be especially challenging due to the size and density of hay bales, and they often require extensive time and manpower to fully extinguish.

We’re proud of our firefighters for answering the call and working through the night to protect our community. A big thank-you as well to everyone who assisted our crews during this incident.

We also would like to give a thank you to Pontotoc County Emergency Manager Chad Letellier for coming and assisting us with the scene.

Today, Oil Center Volunteer Fire Department responded to two separate grass fires in our community. We are grateful for the opportunity to serve and protect our neighbors, and we are especially thankful for the teamwork and support of our neighboring agencies.
A huge thank-you to Pickett Volunteer Fire Department and the Bureau of Indian Affairs Chickasaw Agency for responding and assisting our firefighters. Your willingness to work alongside us is greatly appreciated and makes a tremendous difference during these incidents.

We are proud of the strong partnerships we have with the departments and agencies around us. When a call comes in, it takes teamwork, communication, and dedicated people working together to keep our communities safe.

Thank you to the tax payers of Pontotoc County. Oil Center Volunteer Fire Department new brush truck used for wildfires, search & rescues, all terrain emergencies, and mutual aid with other departments if needed, etc
