Long before Florida became known for beaches and theme parks, it was cattle country.

For generations, Okeechobee cowboys and ranching families have carried on a tradition built on hard work, grit, and respect for the land. Rodeos weren’t just entertainment—they were a way of life. A place where neighbors gathered, skills were tested, and the next generation learned the values that helped build this community.

From the dusty arenas to the open prairie, the spirit of Florida’s cattle industry still runs deep in Okeechobee. Every rope thrown, every gate opened, and every rider entering the arena is a reminder of the men and women who helped shape the Heartland of Florida.

It’s more than a rodeo. It’s a legacy.

There’s something timeless about a Florida prairie at sunrise.

The morning fog hangs low across the grass, the cattle begin moving, and another day starts much the same way it has for generations. Long before highways and subdivisions, these open prairies were the heart of Old Florida — where cowboys rode horseback, cattle grazed freely, and life moved at the pace of the land.

The beauty of Florida was never just found at the beaches.

It was found in places like this.

Quiet.
Wild.
Untouched.

Just cattle, cowboys, and the first light of day breaking across the prairie. 🤠🐂🌅

We spent the morning with one of our large volume consigners LC Cattle as they were preparing their 2025 heifers to go to the next phase of their development program. The quality and temperament speaks volumes for the hard work their team puts into the cattle they send us. If you are interested in consigning cattle with us reach out to the rep in your area to discuss a marketing plan and sale date.

Old Florida wasn’t all skyscrapers and busy cities.

It was shaped by cowboys, ranchers, farmers, and families who lived off the land way before modern Florida came around. Wide-open prairies, cattle, dirt roads, and marsh sunsets were just part of everyday life.

Places like Okeechobee still hold onto that vibe today — where ranching roots run deep and Old Florida is still alive and well.

A slower kind of life.
A tougher kind of life.
And honestly, a pretty beautiful one. 🤠🐂🌾

👑 THE RISE OF THE BRAHMAN 👑

Brahman cattle trace their roots back to cattle breeds imported from India in the early 1900s. Ranchers in the American South needed a stronger breed that could survive brutal heat, insects, humidity, and harsh ranch conditions — especially here in Florida.

By the 1930s and 1940s, Brahman cattle became a game changer for Florida ranchers. Their toughness, intelligence, and ability to thrive in the southern climate helped shape the modern cattle industry we know today.

With their iconic hump, loose skin, and unmatched resilience, Brahans became a symbol of strength across cattle country and remain deeply tied to the history of places like Okeechobee.

Built for the heat.
Built for Florida.
Built for ranch life. 🐂🤠

Did you know it was National FFA Week? To celebrate, the High School and Middle School FFA chapters from Avon Park participated in an Industry Tour of Beef Production, Sod, and our market. The students really enjoyed seeing how the market is set up. So much so, they asked if they could walk down the chute to see it from the cows perspective. 😆 We always enjoy hosting groups, but this group was a lot of fun! Don’t worry, no children were squeezed and we left the hydraulics off for safety reasons😉
Happy National FFA Week! 💙💛💙💛
