Strangulation is a severe and lethal form of physical abuse and domestic violence. Non-fatal strangulation is a critical predictor of future lethal violence. A survivor of non-fatal strangulation by an intimate partner is 750% (7.5 times) more likely to be killed by that same perpetrator later on.

Key Facts About Strangulation in Abuse

• Definition: Strangulation involves external compression of a person's airway and/or blood vessels, which blocks oxygen and blood flow to the brain.

• Extreme Danger Indicator: Non-fatal strangulation is one of the highest predictive risk factors for future lethal violence or homicide by an intimate partner.

• Hidden Injuries: Internal damage, fractured neck bones, blood vessel tears, or delayed brain injury from lack of oxygen can occur even if there are no visible marks or bruises on the outside of the neck.

• Loss of Consciousness: Consciousness can be lost in just seconds, and small amounts of pressure can cause severe harm or death.

U.S. Marshals recovered 79 missing and endangered children across Ohio during a historic month-long operation in August. The children ranged from 6 to 17 years old, with cases involving suspected s*x trafficking, abuse, neglect, runaways and other dangerous circumstances.

Officials say Operation Meridian is the largest missing-child recovery operation in Ohio history.

I want my daughter to grow up trusting what she feels instead of being taught to excuse hurtful behavior just because someone might have a crush on her. I never want her believing that teasing, disrespect, cruelty, or making her uncomfortable is some secret form of affection that she should tolerate. I’m going to teach her that kindness matters, that her feelings deserve to be heard, and that she never has to accept poor treatment just to keep someone interested in her. If a boy likes her, I hope he learns to show it with respect, patience, and genuine care. And if he cannot do that, I want her to know she is allowed to step back without questioning her worth. Raising her to recognize the difference between attention and respect matters deeply to me. ❤️
