📌 Your Rights as a Homeowner
1. You are not required to use the insurer’s preferred vendor. Insurance companies will often recommend or suggest a “preferred” mitigation or restoration contractor after a loss, but those recommendations are just that suggestions, not legal requirements. You have the right to choose your own contractor to perform the mitigation and restoration work on your property.
2. The insurer cannot deny your claim just because you choose your own contractor.
Insurers are obligated under Oklahoma insurance regulations and common consumer protections to process your claim fairly. They cannot refuse to pay a legitimate claim simply because you select a contractor other than their preferred vendor.
📌 Why Insurance Companies Push Preferred Vendors
Convenience: Preferred vendors often have working relationships with adjusters and may streamline parts of the claim process.
Cost control: Insurance companies sometimes negotiate pricing with their network vendors.
