Seniors Helping Seniors Central Oklahoma

Seniors Helping Seniors Central Oklahoma Our caregivers, who are seniors themselves, make your life easier by providing compassionate care in the comfort of your home.

Seniors Helping Seniors of Central Oklahoma was founded to employ active Seniors who enjoy helping less active Seniors live independently and safely in their residence of choice. As an in-home care company, our Senior Caregivers provide all the services necessary to maintain the home (light housekeeping, shopping, laundry, errands, mail and more!) and to assist the individual (meal preparation, me

dication reminders, bathing, dressing and more!) Each of our clients receives a care plan that is tailored to their needs so that we can ensure their independence and support allowing them to live the life they desire in the home of their choice! While there are many companies that assist people in their homes, we are the only company that EXCLUSIVELY employs seniors as our caregivers. These individuals are often retired, desire to stay active and enjoy helping others. Their lifetime of experience and their understanding of the aging process enables them to provide the compassionate care and attention that only those who have experienced it can! Our caregivers form lasting friendships with our clients, and both benefit equally from the time they spend together. We often remark, “It’s like getting a little help from a friend”. Our services are available any time or day of the week up to 24/7 care and we have some of the lowest minimums in the industry (3-hour shift minimum).

💜 If you’re caring for a loved one with dementia, I have three important questions for you.

And surprisingly, none of them are about your loved one.

1️⃣ What happens if you get sick tomorrow?

2️⃣ Where is all the important paperwork?

3️⃣ Who is helping you?

Most family caregivers spend so much time focused on the person they love that they rarely stop to think about their own support system.

But here’s the reality:

Dementia caregiving isn’t a sprint.

It’s a marathon.

And the strongest care plans aren’t created during a crisis—they’re created before a crisis happens.

In today’s video, Kevin shares three questions every dementia caregiver should be asking and why having answers now can help protect both you and your loved one in the future.

Because caring for someone with dementia isn’t just about managing medications, appointments, and daily routines.

It’s also about making sure you have a plan, a support system, and the resources you need to keep going.

💬 Let’s encourage one another.

Which of these three questions is hardest for you to answer right now?

"Mom refuses help."

It's one of the most common, and frustrating, things I hear from families caring for a loved one with dementia.

You know they need support.

You worry about their safety.

You can see they're struggling.

But every time you bring up help, the answer is:

❌ "I'm fine."
❌ "I don't need anyone."
❌ "I can do it myself."

If this sounds familiar, today's video is for you.

What many families don't realize is that dementia can affect a person's ability to recognize their own limitations. So what looks like stubbornness may actually be a symptom of the disease itself.

That's why arguing, persuading, or pointing out what they're no longer able to do often makes the situation worse.

In today's Alzheimer's & Brain Awareness Month video, Kevin shares a simple but powerful shift in approach that can help loved ones become more open to support...without damaging trust, dignity, or your relationship.

Because the goal isn't to win the argument.

The goal is to help the person you love stay safe, independent, and supported for as long as possible.

💬 Have you ever struggled to convince a parent or loved one to accept help?

What's been the biggest challenge for your family?

Share your experience below. You may help another caregiver who is facing the same situation.

Have you ever worried that a loved one with dementia might leave the house and become lost?

For many families, wandering is one of the most frightening challenges of dementia care. But here’s something important to understand: most people living with dementia aren’t trying to run away.

They’re often trying to get somewhere that feels familiar, meaningful, or safe.

In this video, Kevin from Seniors Helping Seniors Central Oklahoma explains:
✅ Why wandering happens in dementia
✅ What your loved one may actually be experiencing
✅ Practical ways to help keep them safe
✅ Home safety tools that can help prevent wandering
✅ Resources available for families caring for someone with dementia

You’ll also learn about helpful safety products and programs, including:
• Door alarms and entry sensors
• Door Guardian security latches
• Childproof door lever locks
• Ring and SimpliSafe monitoring systems
• GPS tracking devices like AngelSense and Jiobit
• Alzheimer’s Association MedicAlert® + Safe Return®
• Project Lifesaver

If you’re caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s disease or another form of dementia, having a safety plan in place before wandering occurs can make all the difference.

💜 Remember: wandering is not a behavior problem. It’s often a symptom of a brain disease that affects memory, judgment, orientation, and problem-solving.

If your family has questions about dementia care, Alzheimer’s support, or aging safely at home, we’re here to help.

Have you ever worried that a loved one with dementia might leave the house and not find their way back?

For many families, wandering is one of the most frightening challenges of dementia care.

But here’s something important to understand:

Most people living with dementia aren’t trying to run away.

They’re often trying to get somewhere that feels familiar, meaningful, or safe. They may believe they’re going to work, picking up a child, or returning home—even when they’re already there.

In today’s video, Kevin explains why wandering happens and shares practical ways families can help keep their loved ones safe while preserving their dignity and independence.

Some helpful tools mentioned in the video include:

✔️ Door alarms and wireless door chimes
✔️ Door Guardian security latches
✔️ Childproof door lever locks
✔️ Ring Alarm or SimpliSafe door sensors
✔️ GPS tracking devices such as AngelSense or Jiobit
✔️ Alzheimer’s Association MedicAlert® + Safe Return® program
✔️ Project Lifesaver, available through many local law enforcement agencies

The most important thing? Have a safety plan before an emergency happens.

💜 If you’re caring for someone living with dementia, know that you’re not alone.

Have you found a safety strategy that has worked well for your family? Share it in the comments. Your experience could help another caregiver.
