When your best biz friends turn into your best all of life friends and you’ve spent the last 7ish years on countless Zooms, Marco Polos, group threads, it’s beyond special when you finally get to meet in person! We started out of opposite sides of the world, me here in OKC and her in Shanghai, China. So glad ’s epic family road trip brought her through OKC today. We met for a lovely breakfast at and then joined her guys at before they hit the road again. Happy Day!!!

This is one of my favorite photos of all time. It’s technically a terrible shot and Randy obviously needed a haircut; but it captures a moment of pure happiness and deep contentment. We had hosted friends for for a podcast taping/dinner party for my birthday. After they left we sat on the patio gazing at the beautiful night sky and listening to music on my phone. As we stood up to move inside, Randy pulled me close for a slow dance and I flipped my phone around to catch this selfie. Whenever I see this photo, I feel surrounded by the goodness of that moment. That’s what I want to feel more of in 2021. Deeply connected to my people, known for who I am, fully present and alive in the moment, full of hope, deeply loved and loving.

So my new year resolutions aren’t focused on my health, fitness, or business goals (although, I constantly have some of those). Instead, I’m chasing those feelings. Therefore, I resolve to make the following happen:
1. A slow dance a day with Randy
2. Copious amounts of family dance parties
3. More meaningful conversations
4. To be more like

Is anyone else obsessed with Ted Lasso? I can’t explain it but thank you , we all need more Ted.

For several years, I spent the month of November intentionally sharing my practice of gratitude. Those who know me well know that I believe gratitude is a superpower that we can hone. Why?
- Practicing gratitude helps me escape negativity and circumstantial depression.
- It offers me a brighter outlook on life.
- Gratitude leads to better relationships as I feel and show more appreciation. In turn, it makes me a happier wife and mom.
- Practicing gratitude builds resilience and those important perspective muscles.
- It fosters joy and contentment and it teaches me what I want most out of life.

Sharing this practice with my friends spreads the joy and positivity and also documents goodness in the midst of what often looks more like chaos.

This November is going to be challenging, maybe even more so than the earlier parts of this year. We’re still living through a pandemic, an ugly election that’s going to stay ugly no matter the outcome, social unrest, heavy lifting towards justice and equality, a weird school year that’s requiring many of us to wear hats we have never worn before... I’m gonna stop before I negate the spirit of this post.

The point is, when I don’t feel grateful, it is precisely the time to practice gratitude and savor the goodness in my life. I can’t think of anything better that helps me hold close those people and opportunities that fill my life with love and purpose. Join me this November in . Let’s exercise positive perspective and find joy. We will spend 30 days of revelry in all the bits of glorious that line the insides of our messy lives. Simply post an image and share your gratitude along with the hashtag each day. It’s easy.

You can share this image. Don’t forget to invite your friends so we can flood our circles with gratitude. That doesn’t mean there won’t be plenty to still raise our voices over; it just means we’re not going to lose sight of the goodness we can still swim inside.

Oklahoma rarely gives us snow; she is more of a fire or ice kind of gal. Today it’s ice. We lost a branch on our lone tree and Randy is legit wondering how he can mitigate any more loss. He half-jokingly suggested we aim hair dryers and heaters at it. We may be losing our minds over here. Aven was checking out how the tree had bent over far enough to touch him when we heard the crack of the top branch and watched it tumble deeper into the tree. Like any good Mom, I might have overreacted slightly as I roared a mother bear-like growl at him to run for his life. I’m not on edge, why do you ask? Stay safe out there, folks.

This kitchen hack is a shortcut to a delicious Hot Honey Chicken Sandwich. My usual recipe requires quite a bit of time in the kitchen making fried chicken, pickles, and buttermilk herbed biscuits from scratch. But when that craving hits without the time to spend, try this shortcut to whip up something nearly as wonderful.

Today I started a class from Yale called The Science of Well-Being. I am drinking it in like a thirsty toddler. Let me describe in case you need a refresher on what that looks and feels like. (refresher, ha!) Toddlers are very active and BUSY. So preoccupied with all the things, they neglect their needs until BAM! “What is this dryness? Is it hot in here? I can’t go on. Must! Have! Drink!” It’s urgent. And when they get their clumsy, chubby little hands on that cup, they slosh it to their mouth where they slurp, gurgle, and spill it everywhere. It’s cute, annoying, and messy.

My scribbled notes already need a rewrite to clean up the mess. My heart is already exuding thanks for quenching my thirsty soul. I’ve already marched into the kitchen to whip up a Blueberry Lavender Buckle after daydreaming it up last week. And I’m already inspired to bring my friends back to the well for a drink of their own.

My coaching certification is in Integrative Wellness. I think about well-being and the lack of it constantly. I think about the well-being of myself, my family, you, our community, our country... it’s the impetus for my relationships, activism, volunteer work, coaching my clients, my creative endeavors, and even the entertainment I choose. It gives me purpose and sometimes, anxiety.

And that’s the crux, right? Especially right now. We are like active toddlers consumed with all the usual life amped up with extra responsibilities, fear, and frustration. And oh the noise! Is this the noisiest year ever? Talk about overstimulation. We’re tired and we’re thirsty. We need each other.

I am explicitly thinking of the empaths, caretakers, helpers, nurturers—the ones who are feeling the weight both tangibly and spiritually. Some of you need a guide and a visionary to help you find your way out of the desert.

There are 99 days left in 2020. I’m not willing to sacrifice them to the vultures. I want to live them fully. Do you? This afternoon, I mapped out a way that I can hold space, encourage, and guide a small thirsty group to refreshment. It might be a hike but I am confident we can make it. If you’re interested in the details, let me know. We set off October 5th!

• I hesitated to post this because, well, a host of reasons. But I’ve been thinking about the power of women and the ways women are often silenced. I’ve heard this social media trend started because of the atrocious femicide in Turkey. I’ve seen others participate in support of and her impressive ability to stand in her own power and truth when accosted. There is no question that violence against women remains all too common in what we consider a modern world. We don’t have to look far to find many examples. Sadly, we often levy it against each other.
I wondered what I could say about that would be important, that could encourage more and I can’t stop thinking about the last two years I have spent devoting myself to advocacy and activism for things that tear at my heart. How I often feel afraid to keep pushing the envelope but how far I have come from the people pleaser, the “good girl” who didn’t want to be misunderstood or disliked. I still don’t like that. But sitting in comfort means I can’t stand in power. It means I can’t really make a difference, however small or large, in the things that could move the needle for others. I couldn’t love people very far if I couldn’t leave my comfort zone and march into a few hairy situations. Ultimately, being the good girl was a trap, a gilded cage. That perch was lush but it wasn’t real and honestly, not that meaningful.
So here’s to all the girls who are busting out, defying expectations, laying aside those pretty little shackles of making nice and pretending those in power know better. Being a peacemaker often looks nothing like keeping the peace. It’s often rowdy and messy. It’s definitely not comfortable. Here’s to all the women recognizing that we can take the power we need and we don’t have to settle for status quo. If the world is going to become a better place, it’s going to take a lot of women stepping into our power and our purpose... together.

Just the happy face of someone who is doing her best to make a significant mark on the world. I spent yesterday at the Oklahoma Capitol advocating for public education and to protect state revenues for state services. Spent this morning raising up new advocates. The 5th grade leadership team at Charles Haskell Elementary is woke and they are ready to use their voices. We talked about the culture of the Capitol, how bills become law, and the important issues on their brilliant minds. I was amazed at their ideas. I can’t wait to be their guide next week when they visit the Capitol to meet their legislators. They know they are young but influential. So excited to be a part of this new experience for them... and especially during Public Schools Week next week!!!

Seasonal confusion over here. Making my favorite sweater weather meal while wearing shorts, Christmas movie muted but playing on the TV while we listen to a fall playlist I curated for we are the REVELERS, and we are “winterizing” early due to a rare free day. Also because gleaming lights make for lovely nights when the sun goes down in the afternoon. Now, do we take advantage of the weather and free day to get the winter scene set out front or is it really too soon? 🤔 nah, Deck the Halls is always our first of The Twelve Dates of Christmas so I guess we’re in full Holiday mode!

If you DM me, I’ll even send you some gifts - the playlist, the recipe, and an episode of our podcast where we give you tips to add more meaning to all your holiday revelry.
