New Partnership Announced
Muskogee Public Schools and the Muscogee (Creek) Nation are pleased to announce the formation of a special partnership with the signing of legislation today by Chief George Tiger. The legislation gives $170,000 to Alice Robertson Junior High School for the implementation of its New Tech Academy, which begins with the 2015-2016 school year.
“I think anytime that we look at education, it has always been a priority with the Muscogee (Creek) Nation - historically, traditionally, and culturally. Being able to partner with Muskogee Public Schools in this new era of education goes well with that priority,” said Principal Chief George Tiger. “We have to as a Nation be able to reflect what’s going on today and I think this is a great example of it. Partnerships certainly contribute to success of not only our students, but of all students - and in the future we see a lot of things coming out of this partnership. I am very pleased with this effort.”
New Tech Academy features eight classrooms in a new building funded by the MPS 2013 Bond Issue, and will serve a select group of seventh- and eighth-graders in a technologically-advanced setting, featuring project-based learning, solar power, wind turbine power and much more.
The legislation, introduced by MC National Council Representative Joyce Deere, Seat B, creates a partnership in which New Tech Academy receives $170,000. As part of the agreement, New Tech Academy at Alice Robertson Junior High School will display the great seal of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation in the central gathering place of the new building, name classrooms after prominent Creek elders, and display art and culture of the Nation.
“We are very excited about partnering with the Muscogee (Creek) Nation for our New Tech Academy,” said ARJHS Principal Peggy Jones. “The Muscogee (Creek) Nation has long supported our school with grants for technology and much more, so it’s no surprise to us they will support us in this endeavor too, and we are so grateful.”
