Just completed a staffing analysis for the New Jail Expansion Project which is required annually by PREA Federal Standards 28 C.F.R. 115.113(a). The facility is planned to open later in 2026. Training and staying prepared for any emergency!! 🇺🇸

Staying Ready sometimes means preparing for the worst. No one wants to imagine that bad things could happen at schools, but the reality is that sometimes they do, and we need to be ready to save lives.

Throughout July, multiple agencies, including EMS, police, and fire, are training together in scenarios that strengthen skills and partnerships, helping us identify weak points and work through them to be better prepared for any situation.

This week, we were at Pisgah High School training with the Canton Police Department, Canton Fire Department, Haywood County Sheriff's Office, Center Pigeon Fire Department, Cruso Fire Department, and students from Haywood Community College.

Last week, we trained at Meadowbrook Elementary. Next week, new teams will do it all again at a new location, improving on what we learned over the last two weeks.

Honoring Major Quintero of the Madison County Sheriff’s Office!! 🙏🏼🇺🇸

To conclude Juvenile Justice Week, the Division of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention honors the life and service of Madison County Sheriff’s Office Major Michelle Quintero. Major Quintero served as director of operations at the Madison County Detention Center, which includes Madison Juvenile Detention Center. She was tragically swept away in flood waters on Sept. 27 as she was attempting to reach the detention center to help care for the youth and adults in her custody. In recognition of these heroic efforts, and her sacrifice, DJJDP is proud to posthumously award Major Michelle Quintero the Raising the Bar award for her 18 years of service.
