Spiker with a drum!

An old, early serial number Real Sword Type 56 finished up for a friend. I spent some time rebluing it to repair the rough ultra-coarse steel wool "weathering" job that was done to it before, so the battle wear will look a lot more natural now. Given more time, I would refinish the wood back to the original color too, but maybe that'd be something for later. These have a pretty unique firing signature compared to other AK's, which I think has to do with the truncated gearbox and the opening in the back for the piston pass through.

Bit of a challenging build, but one of the coolest SCAR's I've done so far. I really might have to keep it 😅

It may not look like it, but the PTS grip has been carefully shortened and modified to work with the way the gearboxes mount up in these. I also added a short spring to the front of the charging handle guide rod to keep the mock bolt fully seated forward. The rear section of the guide rod that normally indexes into the factory stock had to be shortened up to allow the Deans to pass through. I wound up drilling and tapping it for a retainer screw to keep the spring guide from shooting through the buffer tube when the charging handle was operated.

My first time doing one of these AGM STG-44's! For the most part these are basically Ver. 2's internally and not that hard to work on. The G&G G980 K98 scope is near functionally useless (she's foggy, and it's like peeping through a 1/2" pipe with 1.5x magnification), but it's kinda interesting lol. These have a really funky motor cage, so I had to make some little plastic spacers for the motor height because the dual set screws that AGM uses to set height were already denting and wearing through the end cap on the motor over the course of a few mags. I might try RIT dying the muzzle nut today because orange things are bad.

MAXX has poured a lot of effort into updating the M4 chambers, but literally spared nothing for the SCAR chambers. On all current production VFC SCAR's, I've seen that these chambers do not line up at all with the new feed tube design. In truth, VFC should also update the SCAR chamber from the clear polycarb cheese they've been using forever now, but given how long it took just to update the piston from the fragile blue polycarb version.... that'll probably happen in 2077. 🙃

For the MAXX, what I've had to do is add some tiny shims to the hopup wings to move the chamber forward so the feed tube aligns with the bottom of the chamber. In the case of the SCAR, the set screws on the outer barrel chamber block are what holds the position of the chamber, and these screw in behind the wings. Without these shims in place, the chamber sits too far back and BBs will not feed upwards due to hitting the flat metal ledge of the chamber. You cannot modify the chamber by milling away material either because this would then expose the bottom of the bucking.

Of course, this means a longer air nozzle is necessary too. In this case, a 22.25mm is used, modified slightly for length and reprofiled.

Because the MAXX SCAR chamber also has a little U-shaped notch just below the bucking lips, this can sometimes create an issue with BB's rolling the bucking lips and creating a pinch jam; especially on high ROF builds. So you will need to select a bucking that has shorter lips or consider slightly sanding the bucking lips shorter. Additionally, a harder bucking is going to be more ideal for the high ROF applications because it will have stronger lip tension. Something like the Airsoft Mutation LC or 4UAD Quantum works well.

The LCT jank was strong with this one. You of course had the usual oversized axles that fudged the bearings just getting them tapped out of there. And I'm just gonna say it: the new style rotary chambers are hot f*cking trash. Just as soon as I thought I had it nailed down and shooting beautifully, it would inexplicably have a sandy vajayjay. I spent far too many hours futzing with it before I threw it in the trash can and dropped in the old version LCT slider chamber. And what do you know if that didn't get it running perfectly :P

For some reason LCT doesn't seem to be shipping anything with the muzzle plunger and spring anymore either? So I had to supply that.

Where the previous NGRS build was smooth as glass, this one has been a total unapologetic PITA.

Most notably, the PandoRA NGRS gears will not clear the piston rack when the piston is at full retraction. I've tried it with both the FPS Softair (which incidentally, doesn't even move at all freely on the piston rails 😅) and even Retro Arms own NGRS piston. Normally I would run Prommy gears, which are well proven, but these were supplied by the customer and given the near total lack of user feedback on RA's NGRS gears in the groups and the internet in general, I elected to be the guinea pig and see if they were decent.

Also, the RA spring guide remains drilled off center too lol. 🙃
