Often times patient see callus and they make the decision to grab instruments in their home bathroom and they remove the tissue themselves. Healthcare professionals call this "bathroom surgery". This often is the cause of diabetic ulcers. Diabetic ulcers can make you very ill with a condition call sepsis.

It is recommended in some cases for callus to be removed, however this should be done by a trained individual such as a podiatrist. Most insurance cover visits to podiatry. Podiatrist can clip your nails and ensure your feet are in good shape. Check with your insurance to see if this is covered.
