🦇 A few years ago, we had the privilege of rescuing these beautiful bat pups. ❤️

After safely rescuing them, we transported them to NorCal Bats, an incredible Northern California bat rescue organization dedicated to conservation and wildlife rehabilitation. Their team does amazing work, ensuring injured, orphaned, and displaced bats receive the specialized care they need before being released back into the wild where they belong.

Many of the calls we receive are from homeowners who find baby bats (pups) on the ground or discover a maternity colony in their home. That was exactly the case here. Because the pups were rescued quickly, they were given the opportunity to be taken care of properly. 

At Western Bat Specialists, we believe bats are an important part of our ecosystem. That’s why we are committed to safe, humane bat exclusion that protects both homeowners and the bats themselves. During maternity season, it’s critical that exclusion work is performed at the proper time so mothers and their babies remain together until the pups are old enough to fly.

🦇 It’s Maternity Season!

Maternity season is a protected time of year when mother bats give birth and raise their pups. In this video, you’ll see a maternity colony we recently evaluated. If you look closely, you can even spot a tiny pup clinging to its mother’s wing—a beautiful reminder of how devoted these mothers are.

At Western Bat Specialists, we do not perform exclusions during maternity season. Separating mothers from their flightless pups is harmful and inhumane. Our bat specialists are professionally trained in safe and humane bat exclusion practices and follow the guidelines established by Fish and Wildlife, ensuring exclusions are only performed once the pups are capable of flight.
