Forgive me if I haven't been posting here. I'm not that active on social media very often. But recently, I have been considering enrolling in The Butler School of Piano Technology (thebutlerschool.org) after listening to Maggie Jusiel, one of Rick Butler's graduates, this past Guild meeting at Jordan Kitts in Fairfax. I had a little trial session with her on Zoom last week, and I enjoyed it. Our relaxed personalities would allow us to get along pretty well together.

Should I go ahead and enroll, I may consider posting my videos here if it's okay with Maggie, since I'd like to let all of you know that I'm serious about pursuing RPT status.

This past month, I got to restring my tenth piano at Rick Jones Pianos: A wonderful Yamaha C3B from 1971. I also installed a brand new set of Abel hammers. This piano is rather unusual for a Yamaha in that it has a mellow tone and a light touch (4 and 4 on Rick's touch-tone system). My colleague Samuel did the video for it and can be watched here: https://youtu.be/T5hAe39_p84 . He was very pleased with it, as it played very similarly to his Blüthner at home; he therefore chose it as one of his "Sam's Picks."

After finishing, I was delighted to find that the new pins were very cooperative during tuning. I had recently repinned several Taiwan made Yamaha uprights, and even after applying Garfield pinblock restorer, many of the pins were still creaky (probably because of a very inferior pinblock). The results from this task boosted my confidence.

I look forward to my next restringing job!
