A bat that came into contact with visitors near Staircase Bridge on Aug. 9 has tested positive for rabies.
Anyone who may have had contact with a bat in the area should contact a healthcare provider and their local health department promptly to determine whether treatment is needed. Rabies is a fatal but preventable disease if appropriate medical care is received promptly following an exposure.
Visitors should never touch or handle bats or other wild animals. If you encounter a bat, dead or alive, keep your distance and notify park staff.
